How would this be for a gps system for comp truck?

Just had a look at this and just wanted to ask you guys what your thoughts on running this as a gps system in my comp truck and what gps software would be the best to use?

I think it would be a hassle! Better off with a dash mount GPS and a map light imo, especially in a 'comp truck'.

Sure is a cool looking laptop though

If feedback and sell/buy count is anything to go buy. I would say the sale is legit. And resale would be pretty limited market.

The tablet is a much better option.
that first on would be at least 3-4 years old (based on specs) and GPS technology has advanced as well as computer tech.

The toughbook does not include a "optical" drive internal CD or DVD

Its ok that it wont have a cd drive will transfer all the stuff i need onto it with wifi.

What software should i try out? i know about oziexplorer but will it do everything i need it to do cause i have been reading up on what it can do and from what i have read its not for live gps.

IMO ozi etc would be too clunky and unreliable for competition use - and really no advantage (infact possibly a disadvantage) if you don't have detailed maps of the area you're competing in.

I'd say the same goes for any pc/laptop/tablet based setup.

What sort of comps do you intend on competing in and what other uses would the laptop have?

Xtreme winch challenge . local comps cq offroad challenge, cliffhanger and the like. The computer could also be used for tuning on the fly and for internet while at base camp.

Thanks 1MadEngineer i was looking at buying one before i found the pc and now i will get a Garmin thats what everyone is running so i will go with that.

You should have paid more attention when you where there.
Most seem to be running the colour ones that Madengineer posted. Theres two options there a big one or a little. In Juzza's ute we used a Magellan FX324 and we found the smaller screen much nicer to use in the car.
So I wouldnt go the big the screen, as it will take up a heap of passenger space.
