[NSW] Nissan Trials 2009
Moderator: evanstaniland
Hey Wendy do we have any news yet, do we need to register or just turn up , is it going to be a team event or more like son of trials type thing.....Miss Wendy wrote:Hi there everyone, We have a meeting tomorrow night and will discuss a few of the grey areas. what we all need to remember is this is a comp to fill in the void of this years Trials. I know some of you boys' trucks are too big to quailfy for Classic trials so just pack the esky and come watch this year because there is no reason we can see that the Trials will not happen as usual, at SORRA in 2010. So far it looks like only the tuff tourers will need to register all others will rock up but as I say will clarify some of these questions after tomorrow night.
Ok so...from last nights meeting
The event is on the 7th & 8th November
The two classes are Touring and Tuff Tourers.
There can be multi drivers for the same vehicle as in SOT
Tourers are the same specs as the upper class in the Son of Trials -Tyres - maximum of 33 inches
Suspension/Body lift -maximum of 4 inches combined.
Tuff Tourers are basically the same as in Modified for the Trials.
EXCEPT tyre size is 36"
• Forced induction permitted in diesels
• Engine swaps permitted only if a variation of the original configuration of the motor isused
• Diff locks permitted
• Single transfer case only
• Gear reduction in transfer case permitted e.g. Rock Hopper, Marlins, and Marks etc.
• Body lift permitted
• The original suspension location points must be retained
• Trac bars allowed on leaf-sprung vehicles
• Agricultural type tyres, chained, spiked or similar will not be permitted
• No rear disconnect allowed
If in doubt...ask the question
Eight events for both classes. 4 will be harder for Tuff Tourers.
Some will be timed slowest, and some will be point scores.
You do not have to be club members
Tourers will just rock up to the gate and register, Tuff Tourers will need to enter via an entry form.
I will be looking after the Tuff Tourers and will produce the form soon.
Don't panic, I will determin a cut off by the level of interest. We should be able to acommadate a large number of competitors.
No allocated running order. Compete with your friends or fellow club members.
First in....you now the rest.
River Is Nature Retreat is the home of Son of Trials and is located 40km down Wombean Caves Rd from Mittagong. The track down to River Is. itself is quite steep, so no semi trailers or regular large-ish caravans. if you are towing the comp car in then unload it at the top and drive it down. You will be able to park trailers in a large section of clearing further down.
You will be permitted to come down to the property the weekend before to peg out for the club or group.
You can arrive Friday late morning, and check in will be round lunch time.
I will need to confim the fees, sorry. Get back to you ASAP on that.
Well thats about all I can give you at this time. Feel free to ask or PM and i'll see what I can do.
Cheers

Just an update.....
We had a good meeting last night and settled on prices and a few other details.
So the short version...
$25 per person or $50 for the weekend
$50 to compete per person
Cars with their comp car on a trailer will off load at the top of River Is. entry gate and trailers will be parked in an area half way down in a clearing for the duration of the weekend.
Tuff Tourers are basically the same as in Modified for the Trials.
EXCEPT tyre size is 36"
* Forced induction permitted in diesels
* Engine swaps permitted and will be considered on an individual basis
* Diff locks permitted
* Single transfer case only
* Gear reduction in transfer case permitted e.g. Rock Hopper, Marlins, and Marks etc.
* Body lift permitted
* Spring overs allowed
* The original suspension location points must be retained (and used)
* Trac/wrap bars will be allowed on leaf-sprung vehicles
* Agricultural type tyres, chained, spiked or similar will not be permitted
* No rear disconnect allowed
* No X links
This is not a normal Nissan Trials and so the tracks will not be as "intense" as a Trials. We will consider each entry as they come.
Entries in Tuff Tourers are limited.
Entry forms and other information will be made available on the Nissan Clubs web site at www.nissanpatrolclub.org in the next two weeks.
Any questions...just ask

As we see it at the moment we will be at SORRA as normal. SORRA has some issues to work thru but we anticipate all should be resolve a little down the track.DIRTY ROCK STAR wrote:wendy, has the hunt begun for a new home/ old school trials for 2010 yet?

Is it possible to have the rule "The original suspension location points must be retained (and used)" as my wife’s sierra has been changed to suite a coil configuration in the back and we widened the front hangers to suite hilux standard diff and leaf configuration for extra stability but my wife only runs 32" tires. My wife has competed at the last couple of willowglens without question. I know that TLCC is not NPC but we have built the sierra to play with as much as possible.
Thanks James

There is no mention of diff swaps but I would assume they are not allowed if all suspension location points are to remain. There seems to be a few Suzuki's with Hilux diffs expecting to enter and I think some clarification is needed. Personally I don't think anything that is running any driveline parts from another model fits into the tough tourer category.Miss Wendy wrote:Just an update.....

if you are running the standard suspension setup but run different diffs why would that be a problem ? as i read it, it is only if you change the mounting points on your suspension i.e reverse shackle , leafs to coils , longer leafs with chassis extension etc , but if using standard locating points than what diffs you run should not matter at all . as for any vehicle running any driveline from another model not fitting into the tough tourer catergory so what would you class as a tough tourer ? a patrol with lockers thats a tow vehicle or a regular tourer .3.8BUNDY wrote:Were they allowed in modified at the original trials?Nelso wrote:There is no mention of diff swaps but I would assume they are not allowed if all suspension location points are to remain. and as for what is allowed in modified in original trials , my zook with reverse shackle and chassis extension running luxes was all ok for modified class . but this is not like standard nissan trials rule wise.

i'd say that converting the zook to coils in the rear will put you out as would outboarding the front mounts to suit the lux diffs . i think they would have everyone asking for individual changes if they allowed yours , as most people have changed their cars for the exact same reasons as you have stated . but it would be awesome if it was changed than a lot of people down here wanting to compete but can not, could .prontozuk wrote:Is it possible to have the rule "The original suspension location points must be retained (and used)" as my wife’s sierra has been changed to suite a coil configuration in the back and we widened the front hangers to suite hilux standard diff and leaf configuration for extra stability but my wife only runs 32" tires. The whole point of tuff tourer was as a step up from Son of Trials classes but not a full Trials class. People who have actually come to the last couple of Son of Trials have asked for a slighty larger class. It is hopefully a stop gap until the real Nissan Trials can be run!
Ideally a tuff tourer is most peoples on heres tourer/ tow car. eg GQ/GU, 80 series etc on 35's, lockers lifted.
Yes Blade that is a tow car to you because some aren't as hardcore as you
Basically if you modifed your car by altering suspension mounts/ design this comp isn't for you. It also won't be that tuff like a real Nissan Trials track.
People are not getting the whole point of this event. Its not a Willowglen,Nissan Trials, Toperi etc.
If its too hard don't enter and the rest of us there will have FUN without you!!!

i hope your comments weren't aimed at me , as i have agreed for quite a few pages now that the classic trials is different with different classes etc and have come to the realization a long time ago that the car i run in n/t willowglen and toperi is not allowed due to suspension mount changes , and am content with that , hense my last post was explaining why there zook would not qualify to compete .turbo gu wrote:The whole point of tuff tourer was as a step up from Son of Trials classes but not a full Trials class. as for my post you quoted i was saying to the fella that said that diff swaps should not be on a tough tourer is having a lend of himself . diff swaps (which are not disallowed in the rules for classic trials ) are not a hardcore only mod , anyone can throw in gu diffs into a gq , mounts up the same , gives a bit more strength bit more width/stability and is still a very usable touring rig .
and most people i know that go touring have diff locks , so i stand by what i said "a nissan with diff locks , mine included does not by itself make a tough tourer just as putting in different diffs does not make a rig a hard core only rig "
and i know not everyone is as hardcore as me but if you only tried that little bit harder you might get that little bit closer
