Metal Gaskit ?

Im replacing the oil cooler gaskit on my 85` hilux. I couldnt get one anywhere , except at Toyota ( original )
The one I got from them is metal ?????????
I know I need to use gasket goo to seal it, but whats the story on the metal gasket ??
Can anyone give me some info on metal gaskets, and whats the best goo to use ? ( Im also replacing the Sump Gasket -- using same goo )

What engine?

The genuine oil cooler gasket for my 2L was a fibreous one, it was blue. No goo needed.

metal gaskets are usualy used on heads because the combustion temps are to high and the fiborous or cork ones just disintergrate. cant imagine the oilcooler gettin hot enuf for thet so im not sure...

TheGatta does it have a raised groove running around the gasket? If so you dont need goo if youre sealing surfaces are in good condition. If youre at all worried though its fine to use it as long as its compatible.

most genuine toyota diesel gaskets are steel light smear of goo and all good if sealing surfaces are like new then fit it clean no goo

Yeh light smear doesnt hurt, nothin worse than having to do something twice. Just dont do what a few owners do to the odd truck we get in, and try to seal bits with window silicone, they seem to think that quantity is better than quality, hence the whole tube of silicone we have to remove to get to the part we have to seal properly.

if your gonna put some goo on it why not use the genuine toyota sealant, really good shit!
