FJ40 extractors and electronic ignition

Post by faithy1234 »

I was looking at getting a set of headers for my FJ40 with a 2F. I found some new Pacemaker's on eBay for a 60 series with a 2F for about $450. Will this fit the 40 series? Does anyone suggest any other particular manufacturers or do the Pacemaker's work well? The sight says a 10% increase in power and torque. How realisitic is this and will I need to change the main jet on the carbi.

I am also considering running electronic ignition. Jaycar is selling a kit for about $230 all up. This includes a MAP sensor, the ignition module, a knock sensor and the hand controller. Has anyone looked into this?

Thanks

good idea,
however get a second hand set 450 is alot of money :)

as for electronic ignition, another good idea, CDI from jaycar is quite good apparently. you wont need a map sensor and hand controller blah blah unless you are thinking of turbo'ing the engine and mapping the ignition based on boost.

all you need is bare bones electronic ignition ( CDI)

Thanks jessie928.

My FJ runs on petrol and gas so the main reason for going electronic ignition is the ability to run two different ignition curves - one for petrol and one for gas - to optimise power for each. The points last a lot longer too.

Do 60 series headers fit a 40 series engine bay (both 2F)?

Thanks

What points?

I agree those extractors are fairly overpriced. Second hand would be good if you can find a set thats not warped on the mounting face from running lean mixtures. (there's a hint for you, make sure your fuel mixture is right or you will warp the extractors and forever be chasing leaks.) I got a set once for $50. Look around, there are plenty out there.

Physically the 60 series extractors will mount to the head no worries but you'll probably find the downpipe will not be in the right spot and may even foul on something. Best to get a set specifically for the 40 as they are designed to come down neatly inside the 40 chassis rail.

i think you can run the points as the " trigger" for the cdi ignition.
as for the extractors, i have never tried a 60 series set on a 40 either, so dont know.
