Post by boatmadmaniac »

Hi there all!

Im Callum, a newby to this particular forum. Im busy doing an SD33 conversion into a L28 SWB MQ 86' model. The engine (SD33) that Im using is from another MQ SWB but an 83' model.

Im chasing information on Diff ratio's. Both are 4 speed.

Diff ratio for the L28 SWB MQ 86' ..................
and
Diff ratio for the SD33 MQ SWB but an 83' ..................

Cheers cobba's
Look forward to any info.

I am pretty sure the L28 runs 4.6 gears.

I think the SD33 runs the same.

MKPatrol will be good for the answer though.

Hi there all,

thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. So it sounds as though the SD33 and L28's had the same diff? Kinda makes sence to with respects to the SD33T that has 4.3's as this would aid with creating more torque down low.

Now Im getting two different answers! There can only be one answer surley...... My gregory's manual doesnt list a 4.1 only 4.625's and 4.8's.

Does anyone know for sure what the diff ratios in the L28 SWB MQ 86' are
and Diff ratio for the SD33 MQ SWB but 83' ..................

Cheers

Today I jacked up one of the rear wheels on the wreck of which I got the SD33 out of. I marked the wheel and a spot on the drive flange and turned the flange and counted how many turns made the wheel rotate once. I found it to be approx 2 1/3 turns.

Did the same with the L28. Marked it, spun the flange, also 2 1/3 turns.

These must be the same ratio diffs then?

repeat the test but rotate over 10 revolutions, will give a more accurate reading than 2 and a bit.Always ensure rear axle is on axle stands on a level surface and both front wheels are chocked front/rear before you get under car to spin rear prop.Reckon you'd have 4.625's.Cheers,Mark.
