Centre Diff Lock 80 Series

Post by foster_the_fat »

G'Day,
I have bought a 97 80 series cruiser (full time 4wd) and I am having a drama with centre diff lock engagement. It is an ABS model, so it has the viscous centre with the centre lock only activating in low range. From what I can gather when L4 is selected the ABS light will come on and the 4wd indicator also (that's what the manual says) however this does not happen in mine. I also cannot hear any sort of engagement going on when I select L4 so I am assuming that it is not activating. It does go into low range though, just not locking the diff. I have checked the fuse and it looks fine (but will replace just to be sure).

Does anyone know the following:

a) How the centre diff lock is activated e.g. servo or similar
b) Are there any relays I should be checking and where are they located
c) Any basics or obvious things I could check first.

I intend to get a dashboard switch as per the non ABS models and do the manual activation mod that I have seen elsewhere but want to get it working properly first.

Cheers for any help,

Dave

Thanks for the info guys, I will check this. Is the motor accessible or will I need to drop the g/box?
