Often council's will throw a few $1,000 if you can prove benefit to their constituents. There should be Tourism Officer you could talk to. You will need to show them the $$$ benefit as bogged said ie 'new' money into the area. Have to be careful though: the 4x4 community has a pretty bad rep for being yobo's. Council will be all over "Event brings benefit to community..." headlines but they will be more terrified of "Hoons take over community..." headlines. You will have to sell the benefits but also negate their fears.
Good luck!
Good luck!
The Moreton bay regional council is the issue here not sponsors, over the last few years we have dealt with a town planner in the caboolture shire and we have discussed a 4wd Gymkana, or a dirtbike track, neither was allowed so we even approached the council with a driver training facility for 4wd's, still no good, same excuses.
The council just keeps dodging it with such formalities as "impact studies ', noise, visual pollution, traffic conjestion and it goes on.
If we all remember lakeside how awesome that was for the local community , kept a lot of street racing of the street and on the track, council shut it down
They just got the "street wars "going a few weeks ago ( i think that was the name?) at Narangba were you could go to do burnouts on a industrial block and the council even shut it down quick smart.
Motorcross track at redcliffe was shut down years ago, a suitable property at kurwongba was found for dirtbikes but they did not allow that.
The town planner was very adamant in stating that in the pine rivers/ caboolture/ redcliffe shire their will be no motor racing of any sort.
Until we have more open minded councillers thats how it will be forever.
Sorry that it is not going ahead as it would be awesome to get the sport going locally and not have to drive so far, its amazing that councils further away from the citys embrace these events but city councils frown upon them.

That sounds all to familiar. I've delt with several councils who initially embrace you with open arms: that would be a great asset for the community .... two of them offered to help fund it, but all it takes is one bad egg and it falls over like a stack of cards.
I've had the same thing happen at a higher level than local council: the situation is just crazy.

Well done for putting in the effort you did. Shame that it died in the arse.SuperiorEngineering wrote:Until we have more open minded councillers thats how it will be forever.
Our bike club back in the day applied to sutho council to run an enduro out back of menai.. Disallowed as there was 1 ancient rock of significance to the locals (not that there were any around in the 70's )... So much damage those nasty bikes would cause to the land..
That rock is now buried 200ft under Menai tip...
I'm not sure if this is relevant but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I hit the same hurdle a few years back trying to get a 'Tuff Truck' style event up in Vic. I thought the matter was worth pursuing so I went to Tourism Vic who basically look at Events on a bigger scale. Not so much is it good for the community but is it good for the State. It was pretty easy to show that this 'event' exists on a national scale with competitors and spectators coming from all over.
Through them I was able to network with Cricket Aust, Tennis Aust, etc who found our opportunity really exciting: people have a pretty clear vision of what cricket and tennis is and you can't really change that where as a 'new' sport like Extreme 4x4 can be anything you want it to be. From there we started talking with Red Bull and a few of the other big brand sponsors who were very keen to be involved. That showed Toursim Vic that the Event would be done properly.
The council changed their tune when the request came from Toursim Vic rather than me the anoying 4x4 enthusiast.
The opportunity fell over for a few reasons but the process could work for you. I'm not sure what scale your event is intended to be but Councils are part of a hierachy; there's always someone above them.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that, as I said in another post I have it approved by council, just need to come up with the $$$ for a few others things, with an event the size we are planning, it's taking lots of $$ just won't be 1 form of 4x4 sport I have now planned to take it further, off road race and gymkhana and expo and continue to build each year to have up to Tuff Truck size and bigger I'lll be happy when I get 40000 people through the gates, but I'll start with 10000
