winch mounting need help

Post by YN67highlux »

Got me tmax ew9000 winch tday and im having a few dramas mounting it. the set up on my bar seems a bit dodgy.
The old winch that was in it was bolted to the front face of the bullbar, ive mounted it the same but the roller fairlead cant be bolted on because the bolts that hold the winch will be in the way.
By the looks of it the last owner didnt have a fairlead on it
what should i do? should i just notch it around the bolts and weld it to the bullbar? i dont really want to leave it off

thanks
cant post pics 4 sum reason

The roller fairlead is attached using the bottom two winch mounting bolts

sit the fairlead in front of the winch as if you were going to use the bottom two bolts to mount it. look through the fairlead at the winch, the horizontal centre of the fairlead will line up with the bottom of the winch drum (If spooled with cable)

Notice with the 10mm plate idea it still uses the bottom two winch bolts

the roller fairlead i have has 1 hole ether side witch are in the middle of it. if i mount these to the bottom set of winch bolts the fairlead will hang about 30-40mm lower than where the bar starts to tapper back and looks to be about 20 mm lower than cable on drum

good chance you bar started life as a non winch bar, mine is the same it also hangs about 30mm lower than where the bar starts to taper back. Not sure about it sitting 20mm lower than the cable

sorry mate this may sound stupid but the bolts that hold the fairlead are supposed to hold the winch(use longer bolts).I know with the bar i had we had to reverse the winch to fit it in hence the cable runs from the top

mine sat low but my problem was the fact it sat out so far and i kept on bending and hitting it , so i fitted something which fixed the bending and protusion problem :D

Here is how mine is mounted, the hex head bolt you can see goes through the fairlead into the winch. You can also see how the fairlead sits lower than where the taper starts. My cable is spooled on loosely if it was tight it would be in the middle of the fairlead.
