Hi All,
Previously I had a flat spot when I slowly depressed the accelerator when the engine was cold but not if you pushed it fast. This problem dissappeared as soon as the engine reached normal operatig temp which occurred in the normal time frame.
Recently the water pump leaked which my mechanic replaced. While he was at it I had him do the timing belt and kit also the plugs, leads, dissy cap and rotor, oxygen sensor and stepper motor.
After all this I find that the vehicle seems to have more power and accelerates much better than before but now when it starts on a cold motor it fires up and then cuts out! Hit the starter again and it fires up no problems and idles at about 1300 rpm`s. While its warming up if I try to softly push the peddle it still has a flat spot but not as bad as it was before.
Once I take off it accelerates as normal and it reaches its normal operating temp in about 2 k`s distance.
That is my problem at the moment so could someone please enlighten me on what it maybe as my mechanic do`s not have access to any diagnostic equipment! The vehicle has done 177,640 k`s.
Thanks in advance,
Salty.

Accelerator Flat Spot NH 3ltr Auto !
Moderator: -Scott-
Further to the above posting!
This mornining I fired up the Paj and it responded as discribe above except that this time the motor idled for about 4 or 5 minutes while I answered a phone call. On completion of the call I slowly depressed the accelerator a number of times and there was no flat spot responses as before, so I drove off with no problems even though the temp gauge had not reached its normal position, this occurred at about 2ks as stated previously !!!
Regards Salty.

Epitrochoid,
Sorry for not responding earlier, Iam on Sat broadband and the Sat has been out of order on and off for about 3 days .
I have been experimenting with the cold starts and found that the flat spot happens when you first start depressing the accelerator slowly. The problem is only in the initial movement, once past that it responds as normal???
This morning i tried to start it with the accelerator partially depressed and it would not start (tried 3 times). Tried again without foot on accelerator and it fired up okay, gave it a couple of quick revs, put it into gear and it drove off okay reaching its normal temp at about 2ks as usual. After trying this experiment this morning I do not know whether to start replaceing the temp senders or the TPS !!!

Steve,
Like that Qld "REDHEAD" once said when interviewed on TV! "please explain".
As one that is not that fully conversant on vehicle electronics how do I go about doing a manual code check! Is there something I have to do to get code numbers to appear on the instrument cluster!
Thanks in advance,
Salty
