i got defected yesterday, ive got 31" mud tires....

What suspension mods do you have? What steering do you use? Body lift? How tall? What back space are your rims? If a man says something, and no female is around to hear him. Is he still wrong?
More info = better answers. 31s have been engineered on zooks in QLD but there are a lot more variations in the engineering equation than tyre sizes.
Best idea is to get on the blower and call some engineers in your area. They are generally more knowledgeable than internet douchebags like me.

not in QLD you can't. 31s are waaay too big. Tyre size isn't an engineerable item from all reports these days. But as always your best bet is to contact your own local authourity and find out from them rather than relying on faceless names on the internet giving you legal advice

I believe this is part of a Federal Gov. drive to standardise vehicle modifications across Australia. It is supposed to be based on the N.S.W. System. The general concensus is that it will tighten up in Victoria but ease it up abit in Qld. We will see if it ever gets off the ground. I heard that the second draft has been released recently. You never see any state Government agree with each other any other time so why now.
WT come out with the equivalent of 26" and NT with 28" correct me if i'm wrong so that comes into play as well.

Anything can be engineered IF you have the time and money
But as for qld laws on tyre size changing I would just buy some stocko tyres and rims get passed and then refit your old ones. MUCH MUCH cheaper

if you really want big tyres legally, think about doing a lux/bundy diff swap. you would be able to go to a 32 or 33 (depending on what the luxs come with stock 31?). iv seen a few recently that have been done, mod plated and registered.

You need to check with an engineer about changing the track of the vehicle. If the new regs ever get through, there will be limitations on this too, they want to limit the increase in the track, also to include offset in rims. It will be interesting to see what actually comes out of all this. The fun police will be busy.

I'd be interested to hear more about this in relation to Victorian law. I have a Holden Drover with a 2" OME suspension lift, 15"x7" offset rims (i'm not sure what offset), and 235/75r15 MTR's. I think that these are great mods, without going too 'over the top'. When I replace my tyres within the next year, I plan to up the size to 30x9.5r15. If they are planning on tightening the laws in Victoria, is this likely to be an issue? By the way, my zook came out with 15"x5.5" rims as standard and 205/70r15 tyres.

No, 30's can't be engineered under the current interpretation of the NCOP that Vic engineers are working to, as only commercial sierras that were complied on 6.00X16 tyres can exceed 28", however, proving that all axle components, ride height, brakes are the same might get you there. That's not something the engineers I've dealt with have entertained to date.
Will you have trouble/get pinged? I doubt it, even well into the future. A sierra just doesn't look overtyred on them.
