Hey Guys,

just wondering if it is possible to have the fuel guage re calibrated to actually work on the 4.2 diesels.. mine reads empty when there is around 1/4 of the tank left or more.. really shits me as i want to know how much im using in the bush..

depends whats wrong? is it a std tank? LRT?
sender could be rooted.. but shouldnt be too hard to fix.

it is standard tank so 95l but it reads empty at 400 - 450kms.. and only take 65 liters but in the bush i know i will use more and sometime i go harder then others so i would rather know what im using not rely on my always failing odometer..

id almost say replace the sender unit in the tank unless if you say the odo stops working as well mayby the instument cluster is rooted.

nah fuel guage has always done this and it does it on my mates its like its a 70l sender in a 90l tank..

hmmm thats strange possibly speak to a auto elec about it, or if your on the gold coast i know of an intrument and gauge sorta bloke thats all he does.

yeh my gq ute reads empty for ages b4 i have to fill her up. and the first quater goes really quick,like 65-75kms

my first quater is touchy.. if i drive the same sometimes it will get 150kms on it then other 70 but the next quater slows down or speeds up.. its annoying..

mine still has a fair bit in it when the needle gets empty, personally doesn't worry me at all, i know i can drive til the needle has about a 2mm gap between it and the E mark
I wouldn't worry about it, just learn to judge it, heck of a lot of stuffing around pulling senders out and so on on a chance that it may make a difference.
Either that or fix your odometer, that'd be easier, mine played up, just pulled the instrument panel, cut the tiny plug off that goes between the odo and speedo, and soldered and heat shrunk the wires directly to the terminals.
If the gauge is constant but just reads low you could probably correct it with a resistor, i think theyre like 90ohms empty and 0 full so if you put the correct resistor (or a variable one and tuned it so the gauge read E when the tanks empty) in parallel with the sender that should reduce the resistance seen by the gauge - eg when the sender is at 90 ohms (empty tank) the gauge would be below empty - having the resistor in parallel (between sender wire and ground) would reduce the resistance seen by the gauge maybe to 80-85 ohms and therefore it'd be pointing at the correct spot, this would affect the full scale though, making it read high when full...
Or make another sticker for the fuel gauge!
