Raising shock mounts in GQ
Thinking of raising my shock mounts in my shorty.
It has 2inch suspension, and 2inch body lift. Im wanting to keep it low but gain some good flex out of it, so longer shocks and retained springs, or even toying with the idea of using coil overs (depending on cost against gain).
I have made my own front radius arms and confident it will be hit the bump stops.
Would be great if i could get some info on what others have done, how mcuh they have to raise the mounts, shock lengths ect.

my towers were just boosted up with 2" AL spacers, and 80 series shocks fitted, with 80 series rear bump stops in the front end. i have never bottomed the front end out....
I don't really worry about front end flex, i have a firm set up that allows me travel the tricky stuff with ease, as i don't mind if one wheel is in the air.
I find they work really well, and do the job just fine. If anything, and unless your going to race the car, don't bother with coil overs - waste of a product your never going to use to its full extent or designed to do, as soooo expensive.
IF you want to get flex,
go for an x-link, with or without a control arm flip,
Superior arms seams to be pleasing a lot of people, and you still get rd manners

Not real keen on the X-link, besides if you have a setup that works well you will still need to raise the mounts to get the most out of it.
With the test for superflex arms, they said they were hitting the bump stops and had to raise the mounts to make the most of it and this was in a truck that has the 4-6inch lift dropped arms.
Personally i dont want wheels lifting, means its unstable to me, sometimes cannot be avoided but is obvious that the rear of a GQ works a lot better than the front, has to add to the truck being tipped on angles more often.
The front arms are made to take the standard bush, similar to a superflex arm but different. Unsure how the bushes will handle the extra flex, but hoping the setup will put less stress in them. The rear is standard at the moment, just focusing on the front for now.
Not sure how the cut and rejoining of the mounts will go if spotted by engineer or at rego time, not a bad idea though. Make sure welds get full penatration and blend in.

no, i don't run twin's. In my mind (scary lol), twins were the cheaper option before hydo bump stops and coil over became the rage. A number of trucks still run them, as they will let you travel at high speed in stages without smashing the bump stops every time you jump it, or it become air born. its just two shocks one each side, halving the job....
The only thing mine has is a longer shock, which gives it more down travel, and more time to absorb the up travel, and it works very well.
I have raced (and my example is at speed here) a LWB for 15mins, he passed me, and went for it, i had to turn around and chase it down, and we were on a rutted washed out old rd, with drains/tree's across it, and by the time he got to the end, he was about 40 seconds in front, now in the sense of racing, that's a stage win... He was running smoothies, (just the shock without the coil over around it).

, and you are correct about having all wheels on the ground, it means its a stable platform....
Trouble with the nissan front end, is that no matter if you have no shocks in the front end, it will bind up, and stop moving, its just the way it is...
But you are right, those arms are for for gents with a larger lift, and when i looked at the pics i thought, hmmmm
Sounds like coil overs may be your option and it will give you what you want......

Trouble with the nissan front end, is that no matter if you have no shocks in the front end, it will bind up, and stop moving, its just the way it is...
But you are right, those arms are for for gents with a larger lift, and when i looked at the pics i thought, hmmmm
