You like him are too thick to understand this was a thread asking how to fix a problem not how to spend a few grand swapping it to a disiel, if you noticed in the other thread where the guy asks about swaps I didn't comment on the stupidity.
With that said after 2.5 years with over 200rwkw and the biggest abuse imaginable I haven't broken a single engine part...so your reliability claims may be a bit misleading.
Oh and 430,000 kays now on all original bottom end, no rings, no bearings no pistons etc too many of you don't believe there's anything better than what you own, I'm not scared to tell you your pullin yourselves, and I won't bother replying after this or we just end up with another thread of opinions and no facts as per usual.
It's petrol. im leaning more towards fuel myself...Theory I have is that the fuel pump is breaking down when it gets hot causing the power loss due to fuel pressure. now when i pull over and let it sit, the cold fuel cools the fuel pump down enough for it to work correctly again...... Does this sound feasible?? As i said before, I know its not the carby itself as that has had a full rebuild...
Its a real pain in the ass when your on a beach and have to go up a big dune to get home

Yeah being non lpg it sounds like pressure dropping off could very easily be the problem, but wether you just change the pump and hope or install a cheap pressure gauge is up to you (speco fuel pressure gauge under 30 dollars)
Yeah i might try the gauge first. Got a different question for you though, I got some wheel bearings for the front of mine the other day, just wondering if the bearings are the same across all GQ's or would mine be different cause it's the RB30 model...
Bearings are the same, from memory even the late 4.2s with bigger rotors used same part no, only real driveline difference on the RB30 drivlines is diff flange size on the front is smaller, otherwise near identical cars

The RB30 turbo is a legendary motor, I wouldn't be wasting money swapping engines. Bolt a decent garret roller turbo, a front mount intercooler, fuel system and ecu and it will absoluetly fly.

there are some out there who think the 4.2 diesels are gods gift to cars, and if you have anything else your a monkey. although the 4.2 diesels are a great motor doesnt mean everybody should have one.
i just purchased a RB30 and was a bit reluctant at first, but was the best move i have ever made. only paying $1000 for an immaculate 188000km car and can fuel inject it and turbo it for another thousand. there was no way in hell i could justify spending nearly 8000 - 10000 for a turbo diesel for my use (an everyday vehicle). the Rb30s are a lot more at home on the road and a lot nicer to drive, if something is too go wrong with the motor, parts are so cheap for them and a whole engine is bugger all compared to $6000 for a replacement diesel motor.
sometimes i think they have to go on about the diesels just to reassure themselves its worth it. the money i have saved, might get meself a tinny
yeah i ran 100% stock RB30 with 35's for the first 6 months I owned it, around town its not that bad, on the highway at higher speed it sucks and in the bush in low range for most stuff its okay again, will struggle on low speed rocky stuff, also in deep slush you wont be turning the tyres over very quickly to clear them...

hmmm not really worth it then :( ok, another annoying question for the king of RB30 My alternator has pretty much packed it in and im having trouble finding out what the replacment for it would be.... any idea's? I can get a new one at cost price, just need to know which alt it is lol. It doesn't list it in the books :(
i do have the model number written somewhere and can find it if you need but its a waste of time, got a 120 amp AU falcon alty and be done with it, 65 amp just isn't enough.
