GU axle/cv into GQ

Post by money_killer »

did a quick but could not find anything,

thinking of getting a set of yuri cv's, yes i know i should just get a set of cals but im too much of a tight ass.

was wonder can i just order a new set of gu cv/axle from nissan or bursons and will they fit into the gq? im assuming them would fit as every is to suit gq/gu ? would this be a better option cause i know the gu's are alot stronger...... ?

thanks aaron

GU CV's wont fit a GQ housing. you will need to change the whole housing over.

found the answer why if any one is interested.

No the GU CV won't go into the swivel hub as the whole GU CV is not only larger diameter (9-10mm) but larger in length as well so the whole unit ends up being about 10mm longer than a GQ CV/axle. I have tried to do this swap years ago when we got new work GU Wink. Also the GU has 1 more spline on the axle that slips up inside the CV central star to give it extra strength (28 instead of 27).
I also made up some rings out of 4140 to put over the outside CV bell on a GQ and ground out the hub to clear, the cage still broke though and the joint dis assembled itself.

The only real way you may be able to get around this is to weld the whole GU swivel hubs into a GQ housing (after grinding the old ones out of the GQ housing - they look the same, and use the hubs and CV's etc to get it working.

Why do they advertise that they are sold in sets, but list the price for just one axle & Cv, thats so stupid. trying to make it sound cheaper then it is?

sounding to me, its a better option to swap a complete gu front diff into the gq but in saying that the comp guys do give the cv's a thrashing.

im still yet decided in wat to do im on a budget and only drive in the bush but do give it a bit of a hard time when needed

Wouldn't you just bolt a whole GU front into it ;)

cals do break, but so do long's.....

I got mine in and they go sweet. They dont click, and for those few seconds that the power is going down, i dont worry, as i know they are not going to bust.....

I'd go GU, as you get the CV's, and bigger disks and brakes....... and width...

Whatcha going to do money killer lol??????? front up and get some yuri goodness...

After watching that vid id say that cv was stuffed before he even started that track as you can hear it clicking the second he starts on the ledge.

learning to use better lines and not use front lockers where they arent needed would prob save some $$$ too :P

its an auto locker they click. could have been stuff as i kept getting second hand ones.. standard ones should be able to handle a bit more then. that. i give the auto locker to a mate and put an air locker in now, he has not broken a cv yet? doing harder stuff werid ? so who knows.

ahh very good point, i had forgotten about that. I remember hearing that you could get longs adapted/grafted into a GQ, however i will check up on that, i'll call him this morning.

Defently thing the GU front end is the way forward in this situation

i have seen a cal go, however the car that smashed it was never given an easy time, every time he ran it in any stages, it was flat out - no other words to describe it, it was all the time, so i figure, for the amount of times i run like that, i should get 50 years out of mine lol
