Ticking engine
G'day everyone, I just signed up today after seeing some good stuff about this site. I have a 93 3.2l V6 Jackaroo & it sometimes has a ticking sound in the engine & sometimes it doesn't. The oil pressure gauge seems to be working but doesn't show lack of oil pressure. Has anyone else had this problem? It'd be great if anyone could help with some theories on this. The engine performs the same whether it's ticking or not. Thanks guys
t is a common thing with the isuzu v6 and it is the tappets that are ticking and it is nothing to worry about ours does it too and i have been told that you have to find someone that is willing to sit down with a bucket of different sized shims and a feeler guage if you dont want to hear it but it will not harm the motor at all
hope this helps

EVERY isuzu V6D1 and V6E1 do it, just ignore it unless it sounds like this (which is knocking, not ticking) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqupx6PKDCc - this is the timing belt needing re-tensioning
btw, if you feel a clunk on takeoff, grease your driveshaft nipples (3x) - doesn't do any harm to just leave it though (annoying)
those 2 are the most common faults, and best of all....they don't cause any harm

Thank you it does, I've been told not to worry, so that's very reassuring, thank youflyinwall wrote:t is a common thing with the isuzu v6 and it is the tappets that are ticking and it is nothing to worry about ours does it too and i have been told that you have to find someone that is willing to sit down with a bucket of different sized shims and a feeler guage if you dont want to hear it but it will not harm the motor at all

(thank god) thanks for your input, much appreciated
I re shimmed mine. A time consuming job having to measure clearances on each one then order the right sizes. Shims were between 5-10 bucks each from Holden. Ended up having to replace about half of them.
