Brake booster leak

Post by n_dorphin »

Hey guys,

My 89 has just started loosing brake fluid.
It is leaking out from between the brake booster and the metal pole that hold the fluid reservoir.

Do I need to replace both items?

Thanks

Its the main cylinder with the fluid reservoir on top and with pipes hanging out of it. Without sounding rude, if you don't know what it is i would not attempt to change it yourself as it will need bleeding afterwards.

Its not that hard, howvever on a vehicle of that age the cylinder wall may be pitted and require honing. If you plan on keeping it then i would recommend you have it re-buit professionally or get a new one.

Personally, I go for stainless sleeved cylinders, where possible.

As for hard? I've rebuilt motors, installed a body lift, replaced my front diff, re-built carbies, done carby conversions and converted a carb car to EFI - but I've never had success bleeding brakes - go figure. I take brake problems to a professional.
