**UPDATE PROBLEM** 'Daewoo'/JVC Stereo- Wiring Diagram

Hi All

When I bought the little Laser (1991 model), it came with a stereo (not installed) out of a Daewoo. Its branded Daewoo, but I assume its some other branded just re-tagged.

It HAD an 18 pin socket on it. I say HAD because the previous owner hacked it off.

On the underside of the unit, there is a table showing which (numbered)terminal goes to what BUT not indicating what colour each wire goes to/

There 13 wires: black (I assume earth?); red (constant power or ign?); blue; yellow; pink.

Then there are 4 pairs of wires, one plain colour, the other of the same colour with a black trace. I assume the pairs (plain colour + same colour with black trace) are speaker wires (LF, RF, LR, RR). The plain colours are: white; grey; purple and green.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I cant help on the daewoo wiring but I can advise to go to supercheap/jb hifi and find the cheapest head unit there as that will have instructions (and a proper plug!!) and most likely sound better than the daewoo unit as well.

If you dont want to do this, and no one can help, just use trial and error for the wires. It sounds like you've identified the speaker wires and earth, with the red most likely to be constant power IMO. But with the red, blue, yellow and pink I would just try different combos till it works.

It has a detachable face, so I don't think so.

It came with a (detachable) face box with "JVC" on it, so it may be a JVC.

Is that a good thing?

Through a process of elimination and use of circuit tester, the black is earth; red is constant power. I know this because when I connect it, the LCD display comes up with '1:00'.

I also found the wire from the 'accessories' in the car (it was tagged 'IGN', so it wasn't hard!!)

I also found the pink wire must be the lighting input as wehn its plugged in, the display's "lights" come on, but no other action.

I have tried ALL the other wires, including the wires that I think are speaker wires, with NO joy. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry to rain on your parade, but as the owner of a Daewoo (Tacuma).. mine has a Philips radio with a detachable face......

(And for whenever I sell it and if the owner's manual goes astray, Ive written the radio code in white texta on the back of the driver's sun visor. Was quoted more than $200 to find the radio code if it ever got lost. Gulp!)

So be cautious. And good luck sorting out the spaghetti lines!

With the head units i have installed, its USUALLY:

Black - Earth
Yellow - Constant 12+V
Red - Accessory Power
Blue - remote (for an amp)


As for the others, Pink could be either for lights, or power aerial??

You mention that you believe red is constant power because it turns the stereo on to 1:00. This is incorrect. Its not the constant source which turns the unit on, its the accessory power. Otherwise unit will be on constantly!

To work out speaker wires, turn stereo on, and adjust balance and fader to one speaker only (eg, fader all the way to front speakers, and balance all the way to left) and connect a speaker up to each pair or wires till you get the pair that works, this is your front left.
