Granted early model Suzuki 4x4's have the equivilant of a zero NCAP rating, but theyre cheap and easy to mod, and are definately a great bang for youre buck.
If sierra motor blows, i can just pick up another for $100, same with gbox or transfer. Blow a motor, gearbox, transfer, whatever in a cruiser or patrol, and youre usually up for thousands.

Mine is almost purely used off road only so comfort is not an issue. As a tourer a sierra/ Vit/ Jim would not be very good. (space issues).
Off road a (sierra) has a great approach, departure, ramp over angle. They are light and simple and as others said, cheap.
This video shows a v8 locked f+R 40, v8 Rangie (locked F+R) and zook 1.3 (locked rear) make it through the bog, while others were denied by the dimensions of their cars.
Although that being said they do have negatives as well. i.e. Wheel base causing an unstable rig if not driven sensibly.
Enjoy

My playground is sand, and with a 5" total lift, some engine performance mods, 31" baja claws, my sierra will go in two wheel drive, where others cannot go in 4wd.
Amazing to see the faces of people in "proppa" 4wds bogged to the diffs, and this little ugly suzi rocks up and asks if they want a tow, they larf and say an whats that gunna do, so I get out and say, well, you are pretty bogged, I will put my free wheeling hubs in in case I need 4wd, the reactions on their faces, when they realize that im in 2wd, and they are bogged to the diffs, priceless
Suzis are very light, very cheap to mod, and fix if they break, and make a wonderful toy. Dunno about as a daily driver but.

If it breaks, excellent, time for an upgrade
They're very underrated. People think that the bigger the truck the better it will go. Not always!!!
My vitara embarrasses patrols, cruisers and luxs usually locked and lifted too! Granted mine has 5" of lift and its on 32s but still, for a completely unlocked ungeared rig which has cost me around 12k all up, it's pretty unbeatable!

Bog a patrol/cruiser in some soft stuff then drive a sierra/vitara straight past it. In soft stuff a zook is pretty much unbeatable I drive an 80 series an a sierra and in stock forms the zook will out drive it offroad. Not onroad tho the cruiser is alot comfier onroad.
Last weekend I went out fourbing with a mate and his SWB MQ. He has 32inch muddies and me 31's I have a difflock in the rear but no drive to the front so I was in 2wd and he has lsd rear and open front.
First boghole he got bogged straight away I drove straight through no worries because of the low weight of the zook and the huge amount of revs they will do compared to a slow heavy diesel.

More Suzuki parts going to the big Suzuki Heaven in the sky!
I've had/have both, and they both have their place.fe11xx wrote:They're very underrated. People think that the bigger the truck the better it will go. Not always!!!
Extra wheelbase is nice sometimes. I'm far happier on long trips in the patrol too.

I went out on the weekend, and was getting a razzing over the uhf about how the Suzuki is a girls car. Once we got out on the track on the very first rutted out section, all the Patrols,Landcruisers and Land Rovers were slipping, sliding, throwing tyres and on a couple of occasions almost saw a couple of rollovers. Then here I come in my near standard Sierra with 2"spring and bodylift, 31" tyres and low range transfer gears and I pottered nice and slowly up the hill and past all of them. Comment on the video footage was this guys making us all look stoopid. Needless to say, I was grinning
Well i am a girl and i drive a Suzuki X90, as a DD and hard playing..
It is not real comfy as a DD, but it plays hard with all the Cruisers & Patrols in our club... The X90 is constantly surprising ppl of its capabilities and its grunt and it is still stock (about to grow though.. )... My partner plays with a cruiser and we find the difference in expenses etc. we are more going out to play in the X90 as it is so capable and we dont get embarrassed playing in it...
Go the Suzuki....

i have a sierra and a patrol shorty. everyone looks at the patrol and reckons its tops and reckons itd go anywhere as it runs a 4 inch lift and 35 claws. no one even takes note of the zook tucked away in the shed with 31s (halfway through a ute chop and with a blown motor) until i say na mav doesnt go no where near where the zook goes. gota love the zook. but when we go away my arse gets sore enough in a coil sprung patrol somedays and id be hateing life in the zook. just my oppinion.
cheers

buy a vitara cause it will suprise people more than a sierra. and more comfy on road,
haha the big trucks with 35's+ at zig zags got shown up buy me and a mate.. we drove up a rutted out steep hill then through a mud pit at the top with no probs when it took them 20 min a truck and most of them ended up winching up...
