what gives the extra width? is the housing wider or is it in the hubs etc.?
if it is the housing, will the 79s hubs and kit fit on?
does the 79 diff centre fit in the 100 series?
is it just the diff cable that is different for the handbrake?
is the chassis wider on a 100 series than a V8 79 series?
also, does a 60 series locker fit in a 79/100 series centre? or are the splines different?

I have 105 series axle assemblies in my rangie.
Sorry I can't answer all of your questions, mostly because I don't know a lot about the 79 series.
I do know the 105 series housing is wider than 79 series. I'm guessing that the hubs are the same.
I had 79 series ring and pinion fitted to my rear diff to change ratio from 4.3:1 to 4.1:1 and match my front which has a nissan patrol H233 diff centre. 80 series ring and pinion could not be used because of a difference in the bolts for the crown wheel.
AFAIK 79 series and 105 series diff centres are the same, but ratios are different and pinion flange is different.
I have ARB lockers and AFAIK the rear locker is the same for 105 series and 79 series. The axles are larger in 105 series, and the bolts for the crown wheel are different to 80 series, so I assume they will be different to 60 series.
I don't know if the complete 60 series diff assembly will fit into a 105/95 series banjo housing. But I expect the axles would have to be custom, maybe 80 series could be modified to fit the 105/95 series hubs (if they fit the 60 series side gears in the locker). The other option is that it may be possible to fit 105/95 series side gears in 60 series lockers.

1. The housing and axles are wider, you can use the 79 hubs and outers. If you fit a 105 axle housing you will need to move it 25 to 30mm to the drivers side if you want to keep it central. i think this will limit your up travel as the bump stop is pretty close to the pumpkin already.
2. The 79 and 105 park brake cables adjust differently(105 on diff, 79 on lever) you can run the full 79 cable if you make an extension each end.
3. I believe that the rear chassis width of all 70's are the same. A 105 is about 120mm wider.

i think i need to call someone who has done it before to get proper details... then call my insurance company to see if they will let me get the back coiled and still be insured.
thanks for the info guys. i could get a 60 series locker for free thats why i wondered about that. and im sick of the shit leaf spring ride. ive played with the springs but im still not happy. efs is going to hook me up with some extreme shocks for cheap to get the valving correct as the elites just have too stiff valving and the thing bucks in the rear all the time.

You r in QLD, any mod like that (coiling the rear) is illegal. I can tell you the front diff is narrower, axles are shorter, and the swivels are identical. Interesting thing though, the 105 calliper has larger pistons in thesame cast calliper...so they bolt nicely onto a 78.
Same with rear, hubs are interchangeable, 105 brakes are larger diameter.
