what diff ratio for 33s on hilux diesel

Post by dub »

Gday just new to forum and hoping for some answers on diff ratios if anyone could help would be much appreciated.First of all i have an 86 hilux diesel 2.4 and looking at putting 33 inch tyres on it but how will this effect my power?(not that it has much)At the moment i have 30s on it and my diffs are 4.556 it hums along farly well through both take off and top end. What ratio would i need to keep it running this well but with 33s?If i dont change diffs how noticeable will it be?Any info would be great...

mate i got a hilux petrol but its got a diesel g'box behind it and i run 4.88's on 33's and it goes pretty well.

if your car is gonna be a play toy on the weekend sorta thing and you want to keep the low range crawl i would go for 4.88's.they ome out in the early petrol hilux's.

but it should go alright with the 4.556's it will have a faster low range and will struggle a little bit on aceleration but i dont think you would notice a huge difference.

im no expert though im sure someone else will tell you whats better to do it..thats just my 2 cents..
cheers..smiley..

hey mate if its a no turbo 2.4 you will need to go at least 4.88 ratio's these are easy to come by, if you want it to go even better try fitting the 5.29's abit more pricey but will go even better than it didi with the 30's on it.....

4.88 I would not recommend the 5.29 dues to strength concerns

go aftermarket 5.29s it has been proven they are stronger than stock gears and almost the strongest hilux set

there you go,i thought 4.88's were the biggest diff gears you can get for a lux.

and i only got a 2'' suspension lift and 33's and my tires only just rub on the back of the guard at full flex.i would rather go 2'' susension lift than body lift cause u will get better flex than standard springs.but every one has different opinions..thats just my 2c..

you will probably need new shocks and brake lines with a suspension lift.
and if you do a body lift you will need to move the radiator and any bullbars or rear bars and anything that bolts from the chassis to the body really.

cheers..smiley..

yeah i agree suspension lift would be better however i also know i can get a body lift for about $150 where suspension lift to my knowledge is around $1200-1500 and the 5.29s sound good but what about the strain on everything as stated by bubs? Will i create more problems then its worth?
