pics of flexing ifs rears
im just about to start putting ifs rears into my hilux.
now before anyone says that there has been heaps of threads on this im not asking how to do it,cause i already know how to,i just want to see how much flex im looking at getting out of them.
few people said they get almost a METRE travel but they cant prove it,so nows the time to prove it.wouldnt mind knowing what shock lengths use run either.
cheers guys..smiley..

I run them in mine, running them as a 4 leaf pack, would have run 3 but probably would have wrapped n failed at medium amounts of load carrying when going away.
After following chriso around a few weeks ago, with his stockish rear setup, they work imo almost as good as an ifs setup. I wouldn't bother running ifs unless you were to get aftermarket softer packs etc.
Imo they aren't as good as is made out, as well as the the huge shackles standing out from behind, i'll be selling mine soon, and looking at aftermarket or custom but utilising the ifs length still, and moving the hanger so i can run smaller shackles, they are an improvement over standard, although not as good as made to believe.
I call bullshit with 1 metre of articulation, even with leaves removed from the oem packs. The length of the shock needed to articulate 1 metre is pushing boundaries to start with, it is a big ask from a pack that has around 10mm thick leaves. Also define a metre, most people tend to exaggerate when it comes to their trucks abilities.
I'll see if i can dig up some pics, obviously the more weight the better they'll work, i have a dual cab with steel tray and a roll bar and flex's about 1/4 as good as my ruf setup up front which hasnt been tweaked or played with since putting them in.
I run 10inch shocks in the back inverted, but i don't have much lift nor do i want it so they are more than sufficient.
pics are ifs rears 1 leave removed rear clamp removed, extended shackles, stock length ruf mis-matched packs up front, 10inch shocks all round which is stopping the front from drooping more.
Any wrecker will sell them for $100 odd a pair, capalaba 4x4 wreckers does them cheap.
Granted they aren't maxed out and weight transfer isn't helping in the photo, but they are the only ones i have on the computer.

My old ute a 4 leaf ifs rears pack and 2" lifted front leafs on bannana shackles.
And here with a 2" liffted pack and standard shackles in the rear.
I agrea with berad I don't think I gained a lot with my IFS rears But I think it had potential and with a track bar and less leaves I would have got a lot more out of it.
Ruff's looks like it works well.

yea your right about everyone sayin that there the best leaf setup in the rear.every person ive talked to said there awesome and i should definately do it.i will still do it cause your cars are flexin WAY better than mine does and it doesnt cost that much more when i got to replace the springs anyway.i will make my shackles not buy them so i can get out of it pretty cheap if i can find some cheap springs.my 33 doesnt even flex to the bottom of the sill.pretty sh!t.
ruff's car is sick.well yea "was" sick.front flex is off tap.spewin you rolled it.i would have cried if i was there haha.
cheers..smiley..

I also used the stock bushings in the front of the springs. It is very easy to fit these to the standard mounts. And cost nothing at all to get them in there.
well yea i have to be a tight ass because i have never got any money.when i get money it taken off me.buy the phone company or the parents.thing is i need to buyanother set of rear springs so ill tell dad that there the ones i need haha.

hay mate sorry about that bit new to this thing as you said you have ifs rears in the back an rears in the front just wanted to no is there anything special done to the leafs wat size shakles, shocks, an wat lenth brake lines you use in the front an back wat brands you used an if there are any little tricky bits an peaces i might of missed to complete this setup . great ute an sorry for the confusion but i supose you gotta learn somwere
ifs rears flex
yeah stumpy nice rig .....it has some serious flex for a leafy can you let us in on how its set up....
found another pic, not fully flexed here but u get the idea what its like on the trails
and stumps front set up looks very similar to how mine was. only thing that limited mine was the shocks. had procomp 12" travel shocks and it would flex fully both ways. i had superior engineering shock hoops which lifted it right into the guard to so couldnt fit bigger

cheers..smiley..

2"dropped front hangers, mixed bag of 2"rears in the front, Homemade banana shackles and the longest shocks i could buy at the time. The tyres are 36" just the show the amount of travel. No matter how flex you have, it really doesn't allow you to drive further unless it's diff locked which my lux was.optima wrote:nice rig stumpy wat set up are you runnin under the front end
After build a big hilux that flexed well and went well off road and drove like a pig on road, i wish i had done what i have now. Built a truck as low as possible with big tyres, twin locked with lots of torque.
My 80 will sit 130km's on the freeway all day and drive as much as the lux did. The death wobbles at 90km's in the hilux were enough to leave a brown nugget in my pants everytime i drove it.
If i was to build a hilux i would buy a early 90's single cab, 3rz engine or 1uz conversion, crawler gears, 2"lift, 33's, twin locked and wheel the ass out of it. It will go further than most ramp queens and still drive well on the way home.
Just my 2cents.
Joel

I'd go the RUF still for more travel, rides better than the 2" lifter fronts I had and when in the bush the wheel doesn't get locked into the guard when compressed.optima wrote:death wobbles is not wat i want . this is leavin the topic but wat do you think 3 inch efs leafs with inch longer shakles twin locked 35's an crawler gears would be like in the bush cheers daniel
