How reliable are EF/AU factory thermo fans on a 4x4 tourer

Post by pongo »

i am curious as to how others have found them in the reliability dept. Ive used a second hand set for 4 yrs now no probs apart from the odd relay burning out. any dramas with corrogations, mud, heat, dust, etc ??

Im planing a touring setup and have both thermos and a new davis craig viscus hub and am unsure which way to go. itll run second alt and plan on a new larger radiator. On the hwy the fans hardly get used unless its uphill and a hot day.

I have never heard of a Falcon thermo (EF-AU etc) failing.
Without a doubt they are the best value for money auto part available...

in my 8 years in the trade, i've seen one EF fan fail.
i've never had one fail in any of my cars. An EF and now an AU. the EF had about 300 000km on it, thats alot of 'fan on' time.

If you are really worried take your old engine driven fan with you.

they fail all the time, however you can remove the fan and lift the motor out of the frame so you could carry a spare and it would use no room.

I've never seen one fail in almost 7 years in the trade, and I've worked on a shitload of Falcons.

I run EF fans on mine and have even had them jamed with mud and shit enough to blow the fuses. Cleaned them out, new fuses and all good still!
