308 fj40 coil

1975 red 308 resistor on my coil is missing do i need it? still runs good, maybe a little bit hot. still trying to work out all the bugs in a new vehicle, well new to me.
busted arse fj40 slowly getting better

depends if your coil is a 9v or 12v.
