1997 NK Pajero Chassis Information Needed ! ! ! NH-NJ-NK

Post by Tassie Trent »

Hi all I am after some technical information. I have recently bought a front end damaged ~ 93,000 km ~ manual ~ 3.5 ltr Petrol ~1997 NK GLS Pajero at auction. i have since bought all the replacement parts I need to fix this Pajero up. But I have now discovered the front chassis as bent. NOW my question is - are ALL chassis's EXACTLY the same from 1991 NH-NJ to 1997 NK models to do a chassis swap. (1) Are all these models the same width chassis ? (2) Are all these models the same length chassis ? (3) Are all body mounting bolt positions in exactly the same spots between these models ? (4) Are engine mounting positions the same between all models from 3.0 ltr to 3.5 ltr ? . Or at the end of the day do I have to locate & use another 1997 NK Chassis ~ buckleys & none of finding one here in Tassie where as I can get hold of NH & NJ chassis's fairly easy here ! Cheers - Trent ( 0438 177 776 ).

AFAIK, the only significant difference between chassis would be engine, drivetrain & body mounting points.

The 3.5V6 is larger, with larger gearbox & transfer, and the body mounting tabs are welded higher on the chassis (the "factory body lift"). I presume the rest of the drivetrain mounting points are different too, but don't really know.

I would expect anything NJ to NL with the 3.5V6 would have a compatible chassis - I would recommend matching transmission (auto/manual) type too, but that may not be necessary.

FWIW, I recall a thread (somewhere - here or Pajero Club) from a bloke who transplanted a 3.0 shell onto a 3.5 chassis. From memory, it was very simple.

I would seriously consider pricing having the chassis straightened by a crash repairer. (It can be done!) It'd be a PIA to do a chassis swap.
