GU3 - front end rattle !!!

Post by shatta »

Hey guys.

I am desperate to find this rattle, as it is driving me crazy. Being a severe tinitus suffering, those who have this condition will understand my pain.

My rattle is a metalic sounding one, that only appears between 1700 and 1900 revs, when accelerating. It only last between his rev range, so 1 second max, but it is still enough to drive me crazy.

I cannot replicate the rattle when idling, even through this rev range. But once moving, it appears EVERY time I drive through this rev range.

Appears to be coming from the front drivers side, but can't find it.

So far I have:
Removed the door trim and tightened everything and greesed all moving parts.
Tightened door striker.
Tightened bonnet stops.
Removed factory side steps.
Removed roof lining and re-glued strut supports (this fixed a previous rattle).
Got underneath and tapped everything to see what was loose. (nothing).

So please, any other suggestions. I have been looking at every 4wd forum I know and tried many suggestions, but still I seek an answer.

PLEASE !!!!!

This one is a rear rattle,
But when fitting tow bars there is a piece of wire used to fit the bolt up plates into the chassis rail, this can rattle against the chassis and cause a fair noise, can be hard to find.

This may sound silly but I just got rid of a rattle that seemed to start out the same way. It was the shims on the break pads.

i just found that I've got a broken exhaust mount just forward of the flex joint. Took me ages to find it and it didn't sound like it was coming from there.

Might be worth a look.
