Being a chippy i made my drawers from 12mm ply and glued and screwed all joins and then reinforced them with some 50x50 aluminium angle on all corners.They have survived 6 years of abuse carrying around 40kg in each drawer and for runners i used industrial drawer runners i got from the local cabinet makers

I haven't had an issue with flexing and creaking, but I wouldn't use it next time either.
I find the way I used to make them with the ply glued and nailed and laquered, that they are more than strong enough and you can be more flexable in the design.
Too much room is lost with the cube lock IMO
