Suzuki Starter motors

Post by david123 »

G'day Folks, dunno if this is known, but I found out the hard way.

Suzi starter motors are 3 pole, and so, work perfect till they drop ded, from perfect to burnt out in one start.

I was out mucking about, as normal, by myself, drove up top a sand hill and stopped to admire the view, went to start, a bit of a noise like a very close to flat battery, no start, turned key off, tried again, not even solenoid clik.

She is very light n easy to push, so I tipped her over the edge and was able to jump start her, very lucky as I was alone, no fone, no one knew where I was, or even that Id gone.

Got home, took out the starter, pulled it apart, 2 positive poles, one negative, the negative had worn out, and burnt out the starter.

So for any who go out hard, especially if your alone, could be a good idea to pull the starter, and have someone inspect it for wear, and get a rebuild, as it could very well be a very nasty outcome.

sounds like you were lucky it bombed out at the top and not the bottom of a hill!!!

I've done a clutch on the beach with a mate once, at 5.30pm in autumn... so it was chilly and dark and we had to walk about 3km through heavy scrub and bush to get to a main road before getting mobile reception... anyways, after a few attempts getting mates cars etc in there to tow me out no one could get to where i got in the zuk to recuse me! in the end we got a 4wd recovery bloke who had a v8 rangie to pull me out and RAC to tow me home... at 3.30am.

Thats the last time i went out alone doing tricky stuff =) haha

yea I understand, I have no fear in this little girl, she has never failed me, no use going out for hard core with others, as they can't get anywhere near, so im held back.

Very lucky I was atop, not down low hey.

Now, Im a bit sus, I will be pulling the starter in a few months and inspecting it, see the wear.

It may well have been the original, I have no idea,t but being about 40k from fone reception, and then getn help, and finding someone who could get there, and find her, seriously has me wondering about my going out alone.

Also, swift 1.3 starters are same as sierra ones.

u do need to swap the guts over from the swift into the sierra thats all.

Please explain, I really don't understand how that helps.

With a 4 pole starter, it will slow down, poling, and give you heaps of warning, but 3 pole, perfect one start, stuffed the next.

If there is a better way, I'm all for it.

My starter conking out on me like that sort of put the wind up me.
