Hi guys,
Chasing some info on rear mounted radiator.
Can you post pictures of were its mounted, why you mounted where you did and how effectiant it is working?

V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.

I did Outback Challenge with Lawrie Sternbeck - dual cab hilux V8 with rear mount radiator. Problem was the vacun behind the cab when we went fast. The best fans in the world cant blow air in a vacum. And so we only had temp problems the faster we went. Needs some form of diverting air from sides and above - main problem being side fins would last about 1 day with us driving.
I am doing same thing with my lux but taking rear window out and running a big air duct from roof (WRX style boonet scoop on roof) down through roof and out the back window and will report back with results. I expect we wont have such a vacum.

i have also thought about rear mounting my radiator, i was thinking basically running two or three snorkel type setups from the roof line down to the radiator, also with two or three thermos? Do you think enough air would push through or the "vacum" would still occur?
There is obviously many people who have rear mounted radiators, so any input or advice would help alot!

Thats what I thought about there being a vacum at speed. I have organised twin aluminum dual pass radiators with a total frontage surface area of 5000 square centimeters and plan on mounting them on an angle to ensure then draw air from the the side of the cab using shrouds simular to what you described. I'm no expert on air flow etc, but the pics in the above thread look to flow at speed and protect the radiator from rocks etc whilst driving.

why not set the fans up to pull air throught th eradiator instead of push?

I run a rear mount radiator on my hilux and have done so now without any problems or changes for 3 years now.
It is mounted vertical right behind the cab (as head board on the tray) I have AU falcon fans that pull the air threw them from front to back. I have NO air pocket vacum problems ever.
I also have a manaul over ride switch that lets me turn the fans over riding the thermo switch. If I turn them on I can lower the temp down to about 80deg when ever I want, even if I am on the gas and driving it hard.

Thanks guys there seams to be a lot of people have different results, I suppose it depend on how it is set up (fans, size, push pump etc etc)
Thanks for the info, I will sit down with the radiators I have ordered and work out the best place I think to fit them... weather it be drawing form the sides or pushing to the sides is yet to be determined..
