28 Spline Axles ND Pajero Same As Ford 9"
Doing A Project At Moment, Have Found That My 1987 Nd Pajero Rear 28 Spline 4.86 LSD Diff Axles Are Interchangeable To A Ford 28 Spline 9" Diff. As Getting a Standard Ford 9" Centre Modified To Suit My Axles And Axle Tubes. An Fairly Easy Way To Get Any Ratio You Want For Your Pajeros!!!!!
It was a 4cyl rear diff, 8 inch housing and centre from a 1987 nd pajero, as far as i know. It has the 28 spline axles, was a lsd 4.86 diff if thats any help to what axles they are. They fit straight into a standard ford 9 inch centre with 28 spline from a early fairlane. Housing was modified to suit 9 inch centre. Will post a few photos with more info once fully completed

Diff Is now all in and completed, all went well. used a modified ford f100 housing for mainly centre part, then pajero axles tubes machined in to suit. Runs a standard ford 9 centre, 3.5 lsd 28 spline. running 28 spline axles pajero axles, which have been machined slightly around spline end due to being thicker than ford ones only needed about 2 mm was taken off for about 75mm each side, Splines were not altered only thickness of axles themself due to them getting bigger as you go out from center. Bearing were changed to toyota bearings, this was required so axles didn't need to be shimmed as standard pajeros do, eliminating the need to alter the ford diff centre itself, so that standard for 9" centers are now interchangable. Tailshaft'and pinion is still ford, but as i am running all ford running gear is no problem. You could still alter a pajero tailshaft with new ford end on it. Brakes are still pajero standard, onlt different parts now are bearings, centre and tailshaft. Was a nice job in the end and now works as i wanted it too. Hopefully this information is enough for anyone thinking of doing it.
