Im wondering if anyone has played around with setting up a gq with a hydraulic pump off the pto?
If so what pump has been used. Ive looked at some photos of g/box and pto, there does not appear to be much room to mount a pump or is there?
I have everything except for the pto and pump to set up this type of arrangement ie hyd winch (tjm ox) c-top3, presure relief valve, dual counter balance valve, tank etc.
Or is their an easy alternative?
Im new to owning a gq, I had this type of system (pto driven pump for winch) on my old MWB Landcruiser it was writen off in an accident five weeks ago. I wish to do the same sort of thing with the 92 gq ute.
Any help or sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Russ

Wd-40 for your nuts firstly
I wouldn't run one off the PTO . I had mech'drive PTO winch setup, super strong and fast but you couldnt vary wheels speed to match winch speed, it was either in gear (driving the wheels) or in neutral whilst winching.
I would look at an engine mounted pump setup, google "clutch pump" I think I found some in the states, they have an electric clutch on them like your A//C compressor.

hyd winch
Thanks for the replies but I cant see where on the motor I can fit the clutch driven pump(even after reading runva thread) whilst keeping the aircon. This is why Im still interested in trying the pto option.
So still looking for info.

I have one that i took out of a gq ute and i am going to fit to my Gu 4.2tdi.
It is a thomas winch and the only big problem is space for the pump and the Pto box. youcan achieve the space by moding the exauhst.
help that helps a tad

Rusty Nuts,
I had to add a pulley to my crank pulley set to get the required drive for the additional P/S pump - but mine is the 2,8 T/D - you might have to do the same or similiar if you want to keep the aircon as well. It was a bit of stuffing around on mine, but worth the effort. The bracket to mount the pump just took a bit of thinking to sort out - nothing too hard. Have another look after you tnink you have found a clutch pump. I made up some cardboard dummy models - roughly to size, then used this as the basis for where the pump would go.
Don't forget about the reservoir and the cooler as well! The 'as supplied' AGR reservoir on mine is approx 1L capacity and probably too small if it was used everyday for winching, but with a big oil cooler, the oil stays reasonable cooler under load.
Hope this helps.

Re: pto
Is the pto drive and pump itself a thomas item? If not what are they?pete's GQ wrote:I have one that i took out of a gq ute and i am going to fit to my Gu 4.2tdi.
