driveshafts!!!

Post by Macca177 »

ok heres the story
1 week b4 Xmas i got all new shaft, uni etc etc the whole driveline!
ive been 4wd say 2 or 3 times..when on the last trip the front made sum bad clunkin noises( i never hit or went threw mud water etc)! ring back up the ds place... they pull it out last week...its bone dry no grease...he says its my fault..should have grased it before and after every single 4wd. i have only done 3500ks since new shafts been fitted... i was told regrease every 5000ks unless extreme off roading everyday buy them origanlly. Sure it carnt hurt to do it regulary...but it shouldnt have to be dun less than 5000ks should it??
just after opinions!
would they of forgot to grease the front in the 1st place maybe?

thanks

duno how i manged to post it 2x either
sorry :)
Cheers, Hayden!

I say it depends on if they fitted it or not, even if they didn't they should of told you it would need greasing when installed.

All shafts I have bought from driveline services come with a sticker that says something to the tune of:

"lubricate moving parts directly after installation, before travelling anywhere" Check in 50km, or something...

What a pita!!! It's like buying a car and having them say - 'oh, dude you'll have to put oil in the motor, water in radiator, air in the tyres, brake fluid in the resevoir.....all before you drive it out of the car yard!'

Find a new driveshaft shop if they neglect to do something as simple as lube the shaft. True, you could have checked to see if they had lubed it, but a few pumps of grease doesn't cost the earth for their bottom line.
Built, not bought.

mate, some shops are dodgy as, had a rear brake caliper rebuilt the other week, i get to camberra and the bolt outa the cage is missing, i ring em up and have a whinge for leaving it looses, and they turn around and said oh, we always leave it loose casue 9 times out 10 you need to remove it to fit pads,

any way they are taking no responsibilty for it,
