Clicking/grinding noise from front diff? Help?

Post by ethann »

Goodmorning,

Well on Friday night I got a phone call @ 12am (So technically Saturday morning haha), From a mate stuck and needing a hand. Went up there pulled him out heading out of the place I said to him 'Wonder if I can climb over those rocks?', Locked the hubs back in and started cruisin' over them, The front got to the highest point then dropped down and a log went between the front wheel and the guard.
Couldn't move forwards or backwards so I put my locker on and started to move then it started making like a clicking/grinding kind of sound?
My mate pulled me out and I thought I broke my cv, But turning full lock side to side no noise?
So I unlocked the hubs and drove home. Got up early Saturday morning and went to try to work it out, Come up to a log, In 4x4 it'll click/grind with no drive to the front wheels. Put the locker on and there will be drive to the front left wheel but it'll still click on the right side.

I thought it could of had something to do with the drive clutch or manual locking hub, Took the right one off and it looked like it hadn't of been engaging properly and started grinding the gears off.
Rounded up another off a mate and it looked better and stuff so I put that on tried it again and still the same thing.

Has got me stumped now with out taking the centre out?

Could it have something to do with the locker or something?
It's still all under warrenty so I just don't wanna open the centre up and void anything, I'd rather take it back and get tjm to check it out?

Any ideas?

Just rang TJM and the guy said that from what I told him it deffintly sounds like a CV.
So I may just be on the hunt for a CV.

I need to pull it apart and check the cv really.

Just check that your engine mounts aren't broken as well.

Well I took the centre out and had a look over it, Couldn't really see much.
So I took it back the next morning, Took it into the work shop and showed them what was happening. (With my cv's and axles to show them that they were fine).

And now I pretty much have to wait for a phone call, Apprently the centre may have to be shipped off to Melbourne to be tested or something =(.

And my GQ being my daily I sourced a new centre for the front then I could atleast drive around.

Picked up a complete front diff/housing minus the manual locking hubs, (Rotors, Calipers, Axles and cvs) for $180.
Same ratio as mine, So I've just got the open in the front until I hear a reply from TJM.

Will let use know how I go.
