gq lift kit
gq lift kit
g,day new to this forum will see how it go,s i have just bought a 89 gq lwb 4.2 d with stock suspension, actually lower because its sagged. iam wondering if any one has photos of a gq with 2 inch lift and a 4 inch lift. if anyone has any other tips hints on suspension it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Hi mate and welcome. As you can probably imagine, this question gets asked a lot so there is a fair bit of info available on here about lifting patrols.
Basically with lit kits, you get what you pay for. Cheap often = nasty. Really depends what you want your lift for as to what type of shocks / spring set up you need.
Do you carry much load in the back?
Are you planning on fitting bigger tyres?

Plenty of pics in those! There was a proper "What does xx" lift look like?" thread, but i can't find it. For the first time, search has failed me.

Have a read of the following thread, you might find some useful stuff in there. Basically every suspension setup is different on every vehicle, some require castor correction for a two inch lift, some don't.gq42d wrote:thanks t_diesel just useing for camping with mrs and tin lids and yes bigger tyres are on the list maybe 33,s

I run 305/70/16s which are a 33x12.5 equivalent with heavy duty aurora springs and long travel koni shocks. I like this set up because it suits my needs. Suspension is a personal thing, and if set up incorrectly can be very dangerous.
A pic of mine with 33s and 2" lift below.
Re: gq lift kit
Take note that the photos up don't have the factory flares and mud flaps, the 33's dont like them too much and rub on 2" lift. Also all 33's aren't 33's some are taller and will rub harder. I've run many tyre and my 33 swampers were over 1" taller then my MTRs, Maxxis, Claws etc.gq42d wrote:g,day new to this forum will see how it go,s i have just bought a 89 gq lwb 4.2 d with stock suspension, actually lower because its sagged. iam wondering if any one has photos of a gq with 2 inch lift and a 4 inch lift. if anyone has any other tips hints on suspension it would be greatly appreciated. thanks
If you have the 7 seater make sure to trim the seat belt bolt in the rear guard as it'll possibly hit the side or the tyres with only 2" lift.
Here's a fairly flat pic of mine with 7 year old 4" springs but have had 30mm spring spacer added too, and 30mm body lift This is with my 33 road tyres (Maxxis 751 bravos)
Heres one flexing with the old 33 Swampers on same suspension.
Heres my new tyres on the same set up with 36 Swampers! More work to clear the tyres but gives you some Idea!
Cheers Mick!
