cvs for a 75 series
hey fellas,
so on the week end i am pretty sure i done a cv, i am lucky as it isnt effecting day to day driving, but i also dont want to leave it in there to long, will probably pull it out this weekend, but what should i think about doing when i return the cv to the front diff housing, should i search out what longfileds fit in there and buy that, or should i stick in standard ones to keep that as the weakest link so that the chance of stuffing something more serious is minimized, and run a locker in the front to stop the tyre over spining and coming down to hard??
i can get second hand cvs for about 80 bucks or with the axel for 125( which is what i was thinking for the time being) or should i go for new ones? does 150 for only the outer sound right to any one( as supposedly that is half price)
will it hurt to leave it in there for longer than this week end?
cheers guys
Alistair

hj, if i do that i will pic up them doors off ya at the same time.
how many cvs ya got? if i put one in i want at least one spare.
also any one tell me what tools i need to change them. i got tools but i know i dont have some that i need, fella at the wreckers told me i need a 54 (or was it 45)mm socket to suit a nut inside the hubs, and there are cir clips to remove, so i either have to borrow some from work, or buy a couple cir clip pliers. any other tools i should be thinking about, i got plenty spanners and normal sockets, pliers and screw drivers.
i need to find my gregorys, i know i got one her some where for my old 60(should be the same theory)
cheers guys

I got 2 x short sides and 3 x long sides (cv and axel) Only specialised tool you need is a 54mm socket. Like $20 from ARB kilsyth Other than that regular tools will do you. Axel assembly is the same as a 60 series. I'm in Croydon, what doors? I got no doors lolWambat wrote:hj, if i do that i will pic up them doors off ya at the same time.

what would a swivel kit be worth??? am assuming its seals and stuff, it would be the first one i do.
also that sounds like i would be taking the whole swivel hub off, then, at this point in time i have no idea how to do that, i am pretty technical so i cant see it being a problem, but with my cars, i dont like pulling things apart unless i know how long it would take, and what things to expect. im about to have a search for my old gregorys.
i know the right swivel hub was done at my roadworthy so it will still be good.
thanks foor the hints

Longfields are the 40 Series ones and can be had in the 30 spline super set with the hub gears for approx $1250 at your doorstep. Ordered mine on the Thursday morning, had them the Monday morning.
Locktup can order them in for you as well.

Correct.Wambat wrote:is there anything else you have to change witht he 30 spliners??? standard spline is the 27 yeah?? and with the 30 splines, andd hub gears, is that axels as well, cause dont you need the axels aswell to be covered buy warranty??
You buy their 30 spline "Super Set" which contains CV's and Axles, the hub gears are seperate to that.
Current rates (http://www.xe.com) shows that they will land for approx $1210 on your doorstep.
You don't have to pay tax when they arrive either as they fall under the $1000 AUS threshold as well.
Cost of the Super Set is $630 US, the Hub Gears $130.00 then shipping which is $240US so $1000 US total (Shipping cost is not included in cost of purchasing the items for customs so it comes in at $920 AUS, well under the $1000 threshold).

[quote="RN"]So do you support your local vendor...not if it is going to cost me almost double. [quote]
now as i am thinking about the 30 splines, where is the 30 splines? i am assuming they are in the hub end? as if you had 27 in the diff, you couldnt get 30 in there. or am i missing the point?
i like to have pictures to explain stuff, unless i have seen it then i can picture it in my mind.
well i think longs would be after a front locker, i think i should think about that first,

I was smashing mine even without the locker working, its a good investment and will give you much more confidence when driving.
