I might take it to WSID tonight if I can get away from work early enough. Anyone want to take a guess at a time?

Hey mate,
love your work. I'm looking at doing a similar turbo setup myself and was wondering if you could give me some advice? Ive been going through some turbo sizing exercises and wanted to know how you came up with the GT35 for your turbo? Looking at ray halls turbo calculator when i plug in 4.5 figures it suggests GT28 or GT30. I dont need to get big HP , and would like to minimise lag so the truck will getup and go quickly.(want a 4x4 not a race car) Any advice? How early do you start developing boost? do you get much lag? do you still do much 4x4 or is it mostly for pulling the drifter? Any help would be greatly appreciatd.

Cheers

Hello, I went for the gt35 because the XR6 Turbo is a 4 liter engine and isn't real laggy, so the same turbo on a 4.5 liter should be good. I think its a perfect match but if you want something even more responsive you could use a gt3082 with a 106 rear housing. the other reason for my choice of turbo is you can get them relatively cheap second hand, try find a factory fitted 4 to 5 liter turbo petrol engine in any other vehicle. mine starts to come on boost at 1500 and really starts moving at 2000, i think when i put on a 8 or 10 psi actuator it should do a better job of holding the waste gate shut and bringing the boost up earlier, that worked well on the 100 series we did. when 4x4'ing you don't really need much more power unless your in sand, then you can never have enough. glad you liked my thread.

Hey Nathan, how's the e-manage working? How did you work out the wire harness issue, made it yourself?

its working fine, there's only about 10 wires that need connecting. it comes with a harness and instructions so its pretty easy to do. the only issue i had is it doesn't have an afm preset that's the same as the factory one, but i'll just tune it out or fit a Q45 afm. I've put my trip to WSID off to this wednesday so I'll have to have it tuned by then.

15.05, that was a good guess by nabstud. pity the auto died. good way to convince the wife that we need a built auto though. here's a vid of the run i did against the black cruiser.

it drives for about 5 minutes, then it goes goes nowhere until you turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes. makes some strange noises too.

That's exactly what mine did. I think you will find the screen filter in the pan is full of clutch debris. I cleaned the debris out but it only drove for another day before it was rooted.

my guess would be somewhere between 200 and 220rwkw, which is not bad for 12 psi.

its got a wholesale automatics built auto in it now, its a little bit harsh but at least it can handle the power. the engine developed a miss on gas today, i'll have to have a look at it this week. other than a gas leak its a the first problem i've had since the conversion around 15000 klms ago.

looks alright and would certainly go good but completely inpractical if you wanna use it for what it was designed.
intercooler would not be protected by bullbar and get torn off, tyres would rip the piping out and air filter would be drowned in the first puddle.

each to their own i spose, wheels don't rip off pipes you can fit a bull bar and snorkel, best of both worlds. but something tells me you've already made your mind up.

Drifter,

How much was the ICOM JTG liguid LPG kit. Did you buy one to suit a Ford falcon or Territory, or do they have a kit especially for the Patrol.?
I would like to convert the wife's Territory to gas and dont mind fitting everything myself if i can save some money. I'm taking it that you aren't a licensed gas converter yourself?

Ps how's it all going.

I'm a licensed gas installer, i used an xr6 turbo falcon kit and adapted it to the trol. i think the kit was about 3500-4000, its still running fine although i'm not sure its much more economical than a vapor injection system.

on another note the auto is back out getting fixed under warrenty, it lost forth gear, i don't think it was due to the power though.

i had too send it too my local auto shop to diagnose it, and without even having to ask wholesale automatics gave the authority for them to pull it out and send it down. its weird having another shop working on my car, i'll give it a good check over when i get it back though. works out ok cause i don't know how i would have had time to pull it out myself.

Auto is going good.

Put it on the dyno today and it made 333 rwhp (248rwkw) on 10 psi. will hopefully tune it some more in the next couple of weeks and see if I can get it to 400.
