The 4wd switch grounds when activated, so make sure one side of the switch has a solid connection to ground, and the other should connect into the Blue with Black stripe wire in the back of the dash (assuming Maruti has same wiring as Sierra)

il have another look but do you know where it grounds eg,under dash or firewall.

if i wire 12v to the b/bl wire on the firewall it stays on so it seems theres no power

heres a good one,,iv got several wiring diagrams on cd but none show anything to do with the 4wd light or switch,,let me know if you have seen or know where i can veiw it if possible

thanks for the help

If you short the two pins on the firewall, the light should go on and off.
If it doesnt, then the problem is not in the switch.
Check for earth on one of the pins (should be close to zero ohm), and there should be B+ voltage on the other pin.
