1HDFTE to 80 series plug in harness

Post by killalux »

Hey all,
I have noticed that there is quite an interest in the 1HDFTE conversions into 80 series cruisers lately. And as with any conversion the electrics are the biggest problem.
Would there be an interest in a plug in harness to suit this conversion? This would be done by grafting the 2 harnesses together, eliminating all the unused wiring and mess. I feel that if this harness was available it would make the swap alot easier for the average backyard mechanic.

Its hard to put a price on it at this stage, but i would estimate around the $700-$800 mark for the 79 series version, or prob up to around the 900-1000 mark for the 100series with the immobilisers, etc. This is pretty cheap when you consider other people have been quoted around the $2000 mark to wire one up, and that is at a workshop, so you have to get it there.
Of cause this would be on exchange basis, you send me the harnesses, I send the modified one back.

I am offering the first customer for one of these harnesses a discounted price of $550(79 series) or $650(100 series), as a R&D job.
Any comments welcome

Thanks
Steve

If you could do the harnesses for the price you suggested, I reckon it would be great value. I would be interested in one when I do the conversion on my 80.

I imagine you would need the entire vehicle for the R&D job?

I shouldn't need the entire vehicle, Just the harnesses will be fine.

I have just finished putting a 79 1hd-fte into my 80 series yesterday and after spending way to many days on the wiring I think 7-800 is good value(and would look better too).

Now that this thread has popped up i dont know wether to go for a v8, or a 1hdfte.

Either way, I will probably use one of killalux's harness' anyway :D

my 100series was 1fz auto with 285 tyres
now it is 1hdfte auto with 285 tyre the difference is beyond amazing
power is better across the range doesnt rev out like a 1fz but
economy is better than double used to get 340kms to a tank of fuel
ie when the light came on
now get 750km to when the light comes on
much better as a tow car holds speed betterclimbs hills better
it is just better
mine cost me 10500 for the complete engine and auto conversion
FOR SALE hilux parts all models
have most parts available from early to late

Just to update, picked up a 1HD-FTE out of a ute with 53k kms for $8500.

No gearbox, just the motor and all associated electricals.

Need to source the other bits for the conversion and will send my harnesses to Steve for modification.

Cool. Are you doing them for others Jonathan?

Great to see this sort of service made readily available to "converters" like myself. Make's a project that much more achievable.

Hi Dane yes i will do them for others
but i have done them for others in the past i used to do a lot of looms for people and for businesses before i went overseas

i can also modify a tacho for you
i have just moved back to brisbane from overseas
this last one was for a mate ( a couple of weeks ago) before his cape trip we basically turned his stock fz powered 80 series into a 100 series powered 1hdfte
with large front mount intercooler and plumbing in few days

I am actually planning on start doing drive in drive out conversions or as little or as much as you want done
ie wiring or intercooler piping engine mounts what ever
i have all the equipment
Ie plazma cutters tig welders for fabrication
i used to do a lot of performance car stuff and 4x4 stuff for myself
but lately 4x4 stuff is becoming more popular so i will just do what people want me to
generally for a conversion like this i could turn it around in 1 week if and only if i am supplied with all the things required
that time is for drive in drive out with exhaust and intercooler fitted

Greetings all, 1st post, great forum. Have an antique 80 series manual and have a 1HDFTE to install, it came with the flyby wire throttle etc, the 1HZ finally sucumbed. I read about Thrashalux making conversion harnesses, would really appreciate more info. Unfortunately the ECU is from an auto, can it be reprogrammed or do I need to get one for a manual?
