hi all
i know i'm not the only one who is having trouble with stock 1.3ltr w/t gearing,
so with running 31" tyres, whats the best / cheapest / most effective gearing combo eg. 1ltr transfer, rock lobster etc.
please help with how you fixed and rough cost,
i would like to ideally be able to crawl in low 1st with no ecceleration, but keep high range still drivable and fix the speedo difference,

4.9 or 6.5 transfer gears.
Either will correct you high range almost perfectly and provide enough low range.
4.9 if you are more into mud or flatter country, 6.5 if you are into the steep stuff.
A 1.0 case will help but won't correct enough in either high or low, and 5.12 gears are cheaper to buy (if you can find some wrecked vitaras) but your gearing will be too short in high range (4100 rpm @ 100km/h) and only 41:1 crawl ratio.
1.0 litre case: 3259@ 100km/h and 34:1 low range.
6.5 transfer gears: 3475@100km/h, 87:1 low range.
(Stock - 3475rpm @ 100km/h and 29:1 low range.)

im running the calmini 5.14 gears... theyre great thus far (almost 2 years of abuse)... its a middle ground between the 4.9 and 6.5 and still brings high range back into stock area. offroad in low i tend to use low 2nd and 3rd more than low 1st. 1st is only good when you have a lot of grip and in a technical section of track, otherwise its too slow.

I bought TrailGear 6.5's from LowRange Offroad (US) in early July. Took around 7 days to arrive and were US$633 landed ($839 AUS including delivery and currency conversion fee). Reckon it would be about $800 even at the moment with current dollar value.
