glowing headers on hilux with a v6 commo engine.

Post by jaykabir6489 »

ive got a series 1 commo v6 in a ln106 luxy and when i drive it at night i can see the headers glowing red, i thought it could be a fuel issue so i replaced the fuel pump, filter, pressure reg, 02 sensor, tps sensor and iac sensor. it definatly ran alot better after that, but still they glow red.....

its also using a f*&k load of fuel... does that cancel out the running lean possibility?

any help/ideas/info would be great
cheers

they do that with stock manifolds.

If you can get some extractors.

Check spark plugs too

if it using that much fuel check your oxy sensor if it has spat it you will use carploads more fuel which may cause or at least add to you manifold heat issue

My first thought was fuel pressure and running lean....the cat is the first muffler (not really a muffler) a few feet back from the extracters..if it doesnt have one, as above...even better, but it is not normal for them to glow like that, and the fact you are using heps of fuel explains the motor is working hard to give you power...so either valve timing, or the blocked exhaust idea is the 2 most probable causes....do me a favour thou, take th return hose off the fuel rails and put a long one on it that runs into a bucket....give the motor a gut full of throttle, and watch the fuel runing into the bucket......IF it stops when you cane it...your not getting enough flow from the pump and the motor is indeed running lean......this is quite possible if you still run a std tank with pump outside the tank....if this is the case, get an injected tank from a v6 runner into it

rightyo cheers for that ill give the fuel line and bucket idea a go since i do just have an external pump on a std tank, yeh i do have a cat but it was a bit blocked so i gutted it :D
