LED's
I need to purchase some LED lights for my truck, tail lights clearance lights, the whole truck, Hella's are too expensive (but good quality) Narva clearance lights seem to get condensation in them, LED Auto lamps seem OK.
Can anyone offer any other options or experiences that may guide me through the LED maze?
Thanks.
Peter.

LED auto lamps aren't made of polycarbonate. Narva and Hella both use polycarbonate lenses so will handle a battering compared to the auto lamp brand. there was a video on youtube showing their comparison and tests. The auto lamps shattered when hit with a hammer (hardly a dent with the hellas) and they sustained a flame when put to a blow torch (hellas would not sustain a flame) proving them not to be made of polycarbonate, as described on the back of the packet.
If you want quality stick with the big brands I reckon, but if you really cant afford it the auto lamps still provide good light for the price and I haven't seen or heard of any failing due to water damage.

im surrounded by money pits
I've run LED auto lamps on the back of my tray for a couple of years. I've broken the bezels but not the lights themselves.
Polycarbonate or not, they are pretty strong.
Steve.

I have had LED auto lamps on my tipper and trailer for the past 12 months with no issues. THe light that they pump out is awesome compared to standard. I built them into some strong mounting brackets and made sure that only the most well directed hit would get them.
The other brands were just that much more pricey that I figured I could break one and replace it for less than getting the others.

No. I believe the numbers refer to the size, so 207 being 200mm long 70mm high. Then the letters, B or C first being the base colours, then the rest are the light colours, so black base, amber and red lights.bogged wrote:LED's..
WHen they say "LED TRAILER LIGHTS 207BAR" is that 207 LED's?
I believe this is the case with most of those type LED part numbers, makes for easier identification or something

Cheers, yes, could be relating to the size.. But some didnt align up like that, but most appear to.clm434 wrote:No. I believe the numbers refer to the size, so 207 being 200mm long 70mm high. ordered these, which are largest I could fit in the space $80.
OVERALL SIZE: 200 X 92 X 30
Total size of illuminated areas should be somewhere around 200x70 (2 strips at 200x35)bogged wrote:Cheers, yes, could be relating to the size.. Its what I've been led to believe but that doesn't go to say I'm 100% right.

There is a new world of LED's out there.
Light bars that are over 1m long instead of spotties putting out awesome light - allow $2000 to $4000
Air craft landing lights in LED - who would have thought.
H4 Hi/Low headlight globes in LED - what the!
We have just ordered a stack of the LED panels that fit inside interior lights for like GQ, GU and 80 series. Anyone interested in say a group buy at $20 for 2 or $15 ea??
There is some crazy stuff out there - I just wonder what will stay and what will die.
Agreed - you get what you pay for but as a general rule - the price of LED technology has come down a lot and Hella and Narva need to reflect that. There are others out there almost as good but heaps less money.

The lights are all done now, I used Hella for the clearance lights and LED Auto lamps for the tail lights. I am very happy with the result, I just need to finish the rest of the truck now thanks for your input guys.
