As the topic asks, is there a way to make the diff centres/crown and pinion stronger in a hilux diff? Or are there stronger ones on the market? The centre is normally where the problem is I heard so just wondering is there is a viable upgrade of sorts?

Stronger hilux centre?

hi Chello,
i have a ford nine inch diff in my hilux and its the last thing i'm worrying about when i go bush.
i seen some decent LSD ones on ebay for about $800 - $1000...
just make sure your tail shaft is in good nick though or you'll be changing your centre bearing amongst other things more often than oil.

The v6 hilux/ surf have the strongest centres (though it is mainly the bearings)
As for that there is aftermarket gear sets you can put into the centres wich will improve it but as said the centres themselves are not usually a problem, usually poor driving skills and way too much throttle.
Diff locks front and rear will also improve driveline strength as it takes away the need to drive everything with speed (still have to sometimes)
EDIT: also if you get the stronger aftermarket crownwheel and pinion you can install a solid pinion spacer instead of the collapsible spacer... this will help heaps if loading it right up.

3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear

I would have to say an airlocker would have to be the strongest combo with these gears in a v6/surf centre, because it would give the least amount of deflection.

So in saying this, is a v6 centre a straight bolt into a rn46 housing? I realise majority are the same if not all. So say a v6 centre with powertrax lockers and solid pinion and after market crown and pinion pre loaded properly will handle a fair bit of abuse on 35's or so with a fair bit of torque? Can anyone recommend any good after market C&P's?brad 93hilux wrote:The v6 hilux/ surf have the strongest centres (though it is mainly the bearings)
