Hi all, I'm currently in a spot i have a 96 hilux extra cab with an ifs front turbo 2.8, lifted and only 31's most of my outings are to the high country and surrounds mostly medium tracks with the odd hard one's thrown in but the problem is i'm finding i am stopping in places where i should be able to walk though and all the other vehicles don't have a problem getting through these areas that i get stuck in. After few conversations by the camp fire all say i should consider a car with coils eg PATROL.
The problem i have is i know my car has it's limitations and i don't want to do the super hard stuff but i am stuck weather to spend $$$$$ on mine to make it more capable or to consider another car but i really need a Ute with a tray,
Now the options are-
To fit body lift, lockers and 33's to my Lux
Landcruiser Tray and to be honest i've had one previous as company car great work truck but i hear not the best off road.
Or Convert to the dark side and buy Gq/Gu coil cab ute and put 35's and extra's
If any anyone can help with advise or suggestion i would be greatful i'm a bit confused on what to do and the last thing i want is to spend a heap of coin and not be happy. Thanks........

A Patrol coil cab will still feel ok, after the hilux, and cruiser you have to go leaf rear, in a tray.

I bet it's suspension travel. especially the ifs if it's been wound up a bit. A locker up front will make a big difference. Bigger tyres won't make much of a difference.
I'd start with that as it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new truck. If you're not happy after that then I would cut my losses and buy a new truck.

gq ute with coils all round mate. cant go wrong. i previously had a cruiser ute, twin locked, lifted, 33 ect and sold it for a completely standard 95 td42 gq. it has been the best decision i have ever made. the gq is great as a daily, can tow my work trailer(carpenter) can fit loads of geart in it,very easy to modify(lift,etc) and as you would know the toughest off road rig around. go a nissan mate...you WONT regret it!!

Most of my work is in the high country and i have wound up the front so travel sorry what travel a wheel lifts and it's all over, i has been giving serious consideration about lockers but i don't want too fit them and find it's still struggling on easy tracks i know it will never have the articulation of a coil cab i just don't want to spend 5g's on setting it up and still find it wont do the easy/medium stuff. I do like my little Luxy but ppl are trying to steer me away from it saying it's just not capable you wont be able too keep up.
If your car is stock at the moment a stock patrol or land cruiser 80s will go further. It is a lot cheaper to make a patrol go further because your starting of with a better suspension package u cant go past coils all round
If u get a patrol or 80 series lift/33/front locker and protection front and rear and side there is not many places u wont go.

another vote saying your ifs will always limit your trucks ability.
however a single locker will make a huge difference.
I would personally go a rear locker and keep the same truck. I use my rear locker far more than my front.
ifs trucks with front lockers are also renound for busting cvs.
A gq coil cab would be perfect for you - but they are rare and your looking at approx 10g's. depending on what your truck is worth now might help you decide.
all else equal gq with a 2 inch lift > ifs truck with locker with wound up front IMHO.
Or even go a solid fron hilux ute. get it to flex a bit more and a locker makes them pretty capable too.

Put in a front Lokka and you will go everywhere you need to.
Dont go too silly with big tyres otherwise you will start breaking things. keep it simple, add the lokka to the front and it'll do most things.
