I mounted mine onto the stock wheel holder. Just air it down to 5psi. Sits snuggly on the stock bumper so no stress on the door hinge

I had my factory standard spare wheel mount extended so I could fit my 235/75 (on 15x7 rims) securely on. No problem fitting it on (i'm sure it would fit 31"s) but over the many years it has put alot of stress on the back door, so I have removed it and plan to build my own rear bar with a swing away tyre carrier...

If you have a 2 inch body lift and 31's you can fit a 31 at highway pressure on the stock holder, as long as you don't lift the rear bumper when you do the body lift. The lower and closer you can get wheel the better, especially on the soft tops. This is for two reasons:

1. The rear visibility is bad enough

2. and the bigger heavier wheel puts more stress on the tailgate (mine almost tore in half after it had a small dent and had to weld it up)

Infact it is a good idea to have the bottom of the spare sitting on the bumper, to help take some of the load of the holder and stop the tailgate from flexing.

Thats what I do anyway. The rear bumper will still reach under the tailgate and looks fine. Again this is assuming you have a 2 inch body lift.

yeah can confirm monkeyplex. Might fits with room to spare with a 3 body lift. I only put a tyre on the car for long distance black top work. Wouldnt want to leave it on there while wheeling, my hinges are already flogged out from the door rattling, let alone a 31" tyre on the back.
