td42 New rad and cap question

Post by DEZ »

gday guys

I have recectly upgraded my rad with a atrad (i think) copper hd 3 core. Now i seem to be loosing water into the expansion bottle (nearly full). I thought when the cap reached a certain pressure it then would release water to it?

ok so when i squeeze my top hose i can see water flowing into it ( cap on ). I have tried a gen nissan cap and a repco special no change.

So should i be using a different cap? or is this supposed to happen?
cheers dez

Hey Dez,

i found that that happened with my radiator too. I found that the fitting where the cap screws onto to filler was to deep and that the cap rubber couldn't seal. I ended up fitting a thicker rubber and this helped.

I hope this helps.

V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.

daniels, did you just cut a new rubber and fit it? how much thicker?

anyone know of a different cap that solves this problem?

Go back to where you got the radiator, they should have a suitable cap.

my td42 also sometimes loses a bit of water to overflow bottle (and sometimes it runs straight through and out of the overflow bottle overflow - without it being full).

This happened when the engine is running at normal temps and it is only occasional. I have also noticed that the overflow doesnt seem to siphen back very effectively (sometimes at all).

could this be to do with cap?
