hi after some info on how to set up air ram to fold down roof lights please,do i need a air tank for volume,any pictures off light bar would be great thanks darren

Not specifically air rams, but a comp truck a mate has is fitted with a gas strut to keep the lights up, and when he wants to lay them down, pulls then down against the strut pressure and holds them down with a catch mechanism.

baja designs make an electric unit that is self contained like a window winder mechanism.

pnumatics are dear for what they are - ram $70, fittings $6ea, tube $10, switch $120 etc assuming you have a comp. already.

cox ride on mower used to do a model called a super nova, it had an electric deck lift on it which used a little 12v ram that looks very very similar to the baja one on that link, last time i priced one it was some where between 250-300,

It would be more than strong enough for a light rack cause the decks on those are not light weight, alot of other higher end ride on mowers run electric deck lifts to, might be food for thought for some of you guys chasing that sort of thing

Any cox agent should be able to get one for you

What you dont have a compressor for tyre inflation or for lockers.
I would say a very large % of people that would like to have a light bar for anything other than looks will have a compressor and tank. So no issue for me.

I aint saying there crap or no good. I actually checked the other link and think there is a need fro more research. As it would be a nice neat install. But those Baja ones are $400us more than the ones from that other link. I am guessing they are selling them at that price, cos thats what people will pay to make there wanna be prerunner look cool.

how would that run with 12 volt? does it just slow down or will it damage the motor?

Electronic actuators can be used and are easy to setup

Thats my tail light with a hidden fuel cap going in behind it (HSV GTO Show car)

A similar item can be used for the light bar to raise or lower it and can be wired in to the switch. You could also setup a similar setup on a single spotlight and a small joystick to remotely aim the light pretty easy.

Quick question for you all.

What amount of force are the actuators used in these applications?

Looking to keep it compact, so a short stroke actuator that will apply 90kg dynamic force. Do you think this will be sufficient?

I was about to put some pics up then saw those ones.....it works a treat. All controlled by a single pneumatic switch on the centre console - no solenoids to make it complicated.
