gu body lift bolts

So i need to get bolts for a 50mm body lift and the gu has captive nuts and they are fine thread 1.25 pitch 12mm, so i was trying to find bolts to suit. I rang around all the local bolt shops and no one has anything long enough (190mm for the front) in the right pitch.
Does any one know where i might be able to get them, preferably around Newcastle area?

I had the same problem when I was doing my body lift on my GU ute. No high tensile bolts long enough available to replace the front ones.

I ended up finding out that an axle for a scooter or small motorbike was the right length and high tensile. Can't remember what sort of bike it was that I used now, but if you go to a motorbike shop and get them to look through their spare parts catalogues, you should be able to find something.

Pretty pricey (about $20 each from memory), but they do the job.

Mate to do the front ones all you do is get a 40 or 50mm hole saw.
Cut a hole infront of the capsulated nut with the bottom of the hole level with the cross beam. Then you get a small cold chissel and smash the capsulated nuts off. Too easy! once done you can put any grade 8 bolt in with a nut and you'll have no dramas finding the right lenght. To do the rear you might be lucky and beable to re-use the front bolts on the rear or what i do is get a long bolt, sharpen a point on the end. push the bolt up from under the car and through the nut then hit it with a hammer so it punches a small hole in the floor of the body. i then use a hole saw from the top to drill down through the body where the small hole was to expose the capsulated nut. i then just drill the nut out and use what M10 or M12 bolt and nut cant remember what size. The hardest part about doing a body lift on the GU is lifting the bumper back up. Iv done two of these llifts now the first one had a dual wheel carrier back bumper on which although weighs a shit load is easy to mod to fit, however on my GU the rear is standard and i havnt look too hard but it seams like its not going to be easy to lift the plastic bumpers up because originaly they conect to BOTH the body and the chassis!

ash, i had thought about drilling the nuts out and using a standard bolt, i just wasn't sure whether people were doing it this way or not.

Hi a-dog, give gosford bolts and bearings a try, they are in gosford. They have always come up with the goods for me when ive needed something out of the ordinary. There number is 0243254216 & 0243232436. Loz

No mate not KIDDING at all! theres nothing wrong with that doing it this way. if you want to pay $60 for a pair of bolts go right ahead but im in the industry and theres nothing unsafe or strength weakening about it. You must be one of those people who pay someone like me to do all the work on their 4wd and then post on the internet like a big hero.

Is $60 dollars for all the bolts or just the front 2. If only the front 2 i still need the other 2 bolts for the center mounts (its cab chassis) which i couldn't get either. The back ones have no captive nut.
or will the front ones maybe work for the center mounts (2 inch blocks)?

being "in the industry" aint nothing to be proud of or to brag about, alot in the industry just do whatever to get the job out the door and your money in their hands.

You got a $25,000 to $40,000 patrol & you are going to chop holes body rather than spend $50 [$60 was with postage] on 2 custom made bolts that will screw straight in a few seconds .

Mate i don't pay anyone to do my mods.
i fact i supply & fit suspension & bodylifts & make rock sliders etc, etc, etc.

Mate the front 2 bolts are custom made to suit GUs.
The middle bolts are available off the shelf & any bolt place.
The front ones will work in the middle position as long as they are not rusted through.
Quite a few GUs i have done the front bolts are rusted half way through.
A complete GU ute cab is is $250 for everything the right bolts, the right blocks & including instructions

how bout sourcing some h/t M12 'fine' booker bar and making your own bolts (studs) up? It would probably be cheaper than $60, and you could cut it into what ever lengths you need

I did get a price on some all thread bar, it was a meter length and about $90. might find it cheaper some where but i didnt ring around for it.
