Monty76,

I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 with Garmin TOPO maps. I have used the TOPO maps in various locations, Watagans, Lithgow and the High Country etc. and recently did a run from the Central Coast NSW, to Yulara NT and back vis Mt Isa and Longreach.

The Garmin will direct (voice) you through any track on on the TOPO that is gazetted, which is pretty neat considering.
Although the TOPO will get you around town, it is better to swap from TOPO to City Navigator when you leave the bush.
The HEMA units are very good, but are expensive. Some of the NAVMAN's and Windows CE based units can be "cracked" and OziExplorer run on them.

The Garmin and Magellan Crossovers do not give you voice instructions.

My 2 cents worth...

Good luck

Monty76,

Don't forget that you can use tracks4australia and shonky on your garmin for free. (just google them).

You will need Garmins Mapsource to instal them on your unit.
