Projecta Air Compressor

Want to know if anyone has had experience with the projecta typhoon air compressor it claims a rating of 150L/min. Was wondering how good they are at 200 bucks thinking of maybe giving them a go. You thoughts are appreciated.

the wiring is a bit suspect, it had poor connections on the fuse holder.
not sure how common small blade 50amp fuses are to get.

the air outlet is very undersized and caused the connection to get very hot very quickly. have heard of a few hose failures and thats properly the main cause. i fitted an different outlet and a bit of cooper tube to help with that.

had one for about a year . runs into a tank and then air lockers and rattle gun . its not as fast as i would have hopped but still goes hard

I have read reports of the wiring being ordinary and ultimately failing. I dont have one but was interested in getting one. They look quite sturdy and bang for buck could be worth a shot. However for $100 more you could get an ARB, which seems to be a good unit.

That's what I'm debating at the moment was just hoping to here people's opinions on them to see if it really is worth the jump.

In the 4wdaction mag they tested these. They got 3rd fasted inflation times on the tyres I think. Anyway's they are very fast pumps for the price! If I didn't have endless air I'd be getting one of these I reckon.

my boss got a slightly cheaper projecta compressor used it once it sat around for over a year went to use it again no pressure ie you can hold your finger over the air outlet rang projecta ( narva ) no parts avail he said if under warranty woukd get a new one

whether its worth getting or not??

depends a lot on price. for me an ARB cost double the price. also i probably won't use it a whole lot either and its only for blowing up tires.
if your going to run it at high pressure your better off to get an ARB. from what i have heard the cheapies do not like the heat and tend to fail with high pressure.

also one of the reason i liked the dual head is the heat is spread over the two. it wasn't much dearer than the 72l/min one.

Arb actally sell these compressors as well but charge you $300 for them for the same brand

I've had one for a few years and given in a caining. The hose and outlet can get very hot so that is a potential hose failure but I've yet to experience it. On thing that did happen is the fuse holder melted and failed before the fuse blew. I simple replaced it with a better quality fuse holder and it's still working like a champion. I don't think it flows quite as much as advertised but it is still quite fast, I'll upgrade to the biggest Tmax one next as it seemed the best bang for buck in the latest 4WD action torture test.

Mine was won for $60 + $30 postage.. and they are generally selling for $80 ebay or on an online shop $120/$130 + postage.

I cant believe how many 4wd shops have these for sale at 300%++ mark up..

The one that i have, im searching for a different fitting to clamp onto the valve. The screw on type is poo. Also the guage doesnt work while pumping or even stationary..But i have a little guage for deflation pressures anyway alongside my arb/tjm stick/pen whatever i can find deflator.

My vote, they are all the same. Just giving everyone who didnt know the heads up!

When you find something, can you let us know. I also would prefer a clip-on type, preferably that screws into the current end.

my compresor failed after 13 months fuse burnt out twice have to install
new fuse holder now the pressure is gone new rings or something
used only to fill tyers 35 " to 30 psi just brought a boss will report back if i brake it dont think i will

My bro has one, but not very happy with it.

On first use it melted the wiring around and including the fuse holder.
It frequntly just stops for no apparent reason. requires a tap to kick over again.
The cheap hose and gauge is very poor quality. Hose split at the fittings.
It always just sounds like its ready to die, very rough sound.
No-where near as fast as claimed, although was slightly quicker when new.
Bolts un-do themselves from vibrations, have had to be tightened many times.

But having said all that, it still works most of the time. it just gets used to inflate to a safe road pressure, then a complete fill is done at a servo.

It has now been replaced by an ARB compressor, well worth the extra bucks, and also serves two purposes.

I've been thinking about using 1 (or 2) of these in an on board air system. In the past I used 2 Ebay "Bushranger" copy compressors and they served me well. They worked the air lockers and aired up my (and usually others') tyres way quicker than more expensive stand alone compressors. My whole on board air system owed me less than an ARB compressor!

Biggest drama's were amp draw (1 would REGULARLY blow 40A fuses under load!!) and heat close to compressor. When I do it again I'll buy the BIGGEST wiring I can find and use good fittings as well as quality heat proof and high pressure line at least for the first 2-3 feet from the air outlet.

I was also considering 1 (or 2) of the 'Boss' compressors. They seem like a quality unit.

But I'll try the Ebay projecta copies first I think, even if I have to replace some of the stock wiring with heavier stuff and the fittings and air line with better quality stuff.

And before the 'get what you pay for' brigade start, where do you think MOST of the air compressors that you pay mega dollars for are made?

I've had one of these I got off Ebay about 2 1/2 years ago, for about $100. Never had a problem, even pumping up 6 265/75 R16s from 20 -40 PSI. A mate bought the latest ARB one & it lasted 1 1/2 tyres before it sh!t itself. When he took it back they said the motoer was burnt out & replaced it. A high price doesn't mean it wont fail.

As above over 2 yrs old from ebay and I paid 140 to my door.

Mine did blow a fuse early on and i found the power wire (inside the plastic casing)was pinched between the body and earthing out.

Otherwise its been faultless and very happy with its performance.
