You can get a T3 off a VL highflowed for that sort of coin.

Hyper Gear do good work, and will sit down and talk about what you want from the Turbo, and recomend what size wheels to run, to suit you're needs.

They did mine, and i'm stoked with the result, mine spoolls up a LOT quicker now, and will still run upto 15-18 pound, before it runs out of effiency(sp)

This is on an RB30 though, but i was talking to him about a mates 4.2 Diesal, and they have worked on them before :D

I was assuming you were talking about new, second hand you should be able to pick something decent up.

Something like this would suit, however i would try and get one that's been reco'd (make sure they have receipts). My turbo is pretty much a RB30ET unit, and i'm happy with it (only running 5psi). I'll get it high-flowed and up the boost to 12-15psi when i can find a spare $1200.

Why spend $1200 on a high flow when a BB garrett is around the same price?

The $1200 i was quoted for included a swap of turbine wheel from ceramic to steel, bearings, seals, high flow and balance.

For the price, i would probably do as i mentioned earlier and get a second hand high flowed T3, or just go the whole hog and buy a new unit.

My manifold is a T3 flange, so i would need to get a T25-T3 adapter, re-do the plumbing, re-do the dump, intake piping, and i'm pretty sure i'd have issues with the turbo fouling on the inner guard or engine mount.

good turbo

Post by db1891 »

go for a roller bearing turbo ring Bill from adelaide turbo he has done heaps of them for nissan TD42. and will freight to you with quick turn around I am running around 170kw ATW on 35 inch tyres and the car fly's cost around $1500 plus adaptors etc say $2k will pull it all up inc ceramic coated and everything if you like. you will not regret it. we have had 3 different turbo kits and just wish some told me this info in the first place instead of wasting my money. I would have just bought the manifold bolted this turbo on it and doubled the power from a standard kit no problems. word of warning fit a boost gauge if going to adjust boost as you could run 30-40psi no problems from this turbo. low egt fast spool we are stocked with it
we have purchased 3 of them now for other vehicles and no one has complained yet as are perfect full boost from around 1600rpm to 1800 rpm no problems. fastest spooling turbo i have seen yet suitable up to 180kw at the wheels he does one that will go to 200kw but a bit more laggy. my suggestion stick with the 170kw one and you will be stoked

pump mods

Post by db1891 »

my brother just has a standard 11mm gu pump he bought from a wreakers for $400-500 that had the boost compensator on it. his motor is like 250kkm old runs 14 psi boost and loves it. mine has the 12mm MTQ modified pump and this got it going even more. you have to run around 17-23 psi to make the power but the pump statrs working from around 17psi. I wasted so much money with west end diesel in syd they ripped me off and effectivly stole my pump off me instead of a refund as they cannot get them to go well at all. Use MTQ (adelaide) and you will be happy and use bill at adelaide turbo and you should be happy too. It cost me over 10 grand to work that out and about a years worth of stuffing around

So the MTQ manifold you are raving about is the T3 flanged low-mount cast unit? If so, its the same one from the group buy way back...

Got any specs on that turbo?

Recently bought a Garrett T28 from a mate for $100 and put a seal and bearing kit through it. Was for my TD42. Came on making 5 psi at 1200rpm and 16psi by about 2200rpm. Stacks of power, responded really well to pump adjustments then too. Only had a 2 1/2" exhaust too. Nice little water cooled turbo.

Adelaide Turbo Centre Talk to Bill

Post by db1891 »

Talk to bill at Adelaide turbo look hi up under yellowpages or on google but his number is for those too lazy to do is 08 8377 2511 Say want same turbo as Darren from TUGGERAH NSW has he will know. Bill has done a number of turbos for MTQ in Adelaide. We went for smaller exhaust housing for faster spool more drivability worked great will limit us on the top end if chasing 200kw but 160-170 is good enough for me and the car changes lanes under aceleration and when put on JC diesel tunes dyno in narellen Syd he said most powerful diesel car he has had on the dyno and was off his scale as he has an old dyno so couldn't tune it properly.
