Options with a hilux...

Post by wtr_sprts4life »

Ive got a 97 hilux dual cab, 2.8 diesel.

I rolled it over and damaged the left side of the cab, however the chassis and driveline seem to be in still good nick.

My options;
Do i part it out and see what i can get for it?
Do i get another cab and rebuild it?

What do you think i should do? Im keen on maybe building a single cab.

Thanks.

well the thing is;

my daily driver is a 94 model dual cab w/ flat tray.

Ive rebuilt the motor, MTQ turbo system, overhauled injector pump, boost compensator, top mount cooler, new injectors, new timing belt etc... Basically, the motor is bullet proof and is ready to go for another 300,000ks.

Gearbox has just been rebuilt and im yet to put it back in yet. Ive got new tyres, bullbar, winch, brushbars, sidesteps, etc etc.

My idea is to find a single cab on its own, rebuild it from the ground up including rebuilding the axles, new suspension system, custom tray, and when the time comes, pull my box and motor out of my daily driver, aswell as all the good pieces and make the single cab my daily.

And because the roll over already has good running gear, ill put that all back in my daily now, and sell it off.

I suppose my question is, would this be benificial or am i wasting time and money? Do i just part out my wrecked one? If so what do you think i can get for the hole thing? i like tinkering with stuff and have the know how to do it all.

BTW if anyone knows where i can find a single cab/dual cab, or a complete car minus gearbox etc let me know :)

cheers.

I have a cheap (IE Free) cab from a 1986 single cab lux.
its a bit rusty, but it'll do.

I also have a 4-runner body, bobbed also 1986 model that'll go for cheap.

Cheers,
Bart
